this remarkable species blossoms on either side of the plant making composition a challenge

I may do another from the side, but generally I try to show as many floral faces as I can with my orchid photographs

this plant emits a near fetid odor that is actually pleasant in the garden, but can be overpowering in the studio

In spite of the side blossoms you mention as distracting, I actually like the "group" shot in that it suggests a group of avid singers.

Very interesting kind of orchid, never seen before. Nice, and rendered with terrific contrast!

I use a black background & then select it in post & transform it to pure black

this bit of legerdemain greatly improves the contrast & I think optimally shows off the orchid

I find the hairy bits of this orchid intriguingly suggestive
