D2 Accessories?

Frank, the most used accessory I have is an external 28mm viewfinder. I do a lot of dance photog and use zone focusing. I use the finder to center the area I want to capture.

I also have the closeup lens -- very useful and quite a good lens.

I have made use of the circ polarizer on occasion, but like to have it in my kit.

I also (always) carry a pair of Wein HSHS hotshoes to protect the innards against nasty flash dump voltages. These are very cheap insurance against a D2 Omelet.

What I like best about this camera is that it's QUIET. I wish the M8 were more quiet. I was shooting alongside my son last week, he using my M6 that lives with him. Every time he clicked the shutter, I had to go change my pants.

Enjoy the D2.

Frank, the D2 doesn't need many accessories. I have the Elpro-D and UV filter for protection. Quietness and quality results are its main virtues. Enjoy it for many years to come, sensor permitting (mine is back in Solms)! I truly believe it will be regarded as a classic in due time.

Frank,

I'll add to what the others have said about the Elpro-d macro lens. The D2 already has a very good macro function with close range autofocus but the Elpro-d improves upon this significantly.

Unfortunately, and oddly, the Elpro-d doesn't come with any protective case so I bought one of Luigi's (http://www.leicatime.com/ElproDcaseBrownDiag.jpg) leather Elpro pouches, which is simply excellent. If you get one you'll have an accessory for an accessory! :D

That's a nice looking case for the Elpro and the first time I've seen one. I use the original packaging as my case. It's getting quite beat up, but it does provide very good protection from the elements, plus great cushioning.

I have the Panasonic LC1 DMW-LW69 0.82X wide-angle conversion lens and a +3 ND filter. Both are 69mm. That lens is at least as heavy as the entire camera.

I haven't even tried them out because my D2 is still in NJ. The wide angle lens is pretty pricey on eBay at $450 and up. Sometimes you can get a deal though... I did.

The most useful D2 accessory is the Lumix LC1 leather ever ready case which allows you to keep the range hood on the lens all the time. They were on ebay for about USD40.00, and are quite rare now.

Alternatively the Crumpler Zieube for USD20.00 also works almost as well, this one also takes a D3 snuggly.

I will suggest the Tamrac 5682 bag for the D2 as another alternative (and the slightly larger 5683 for the D3) ... about $30 and the camera fits snugly inside with the shade attached. It also has room for the remote trigger, polarizer, extra SD cards, and two spare batteries. Quite well made, too.

Elpro close up lens

I have the LC1 and use the Lowpro bag I think it is the D Res 40AW. Camera and Lens hood together with the elpro spare battery and the remote shutter release all go in nicely.

If you visit the Lowpro webbsite find the compatability chart search Digilux 2.

You could also try searching for the Leica Digilux 2 Field guide.

Frank,

My favorite D2 accessory is the Neutral Density filter, which allows you to shoot at wider aperatures (especially useful for a small sensor camera). Much to my delight, I found the "official" Leica E69 ND filter # 18631 to be mis-labeled. Instead of being 8X (that's 2 stops), it is actually 10X (that's 3.3 stops!).
