I'm wondering if anyone has experienced a loss of tension in the spring clips inside the hot shoe of the M10 as a result of using a Match Technical Thumbs Up? The photo below shows the part in question. The silver M10R clips (red circle) are a bit higher than the clips in the M10M (yellow circle), the result being that when using a Leica brand thumb grip on the M10M, it is not snug and secure.

Had you tried (as I've done on M10) carefully dress up with one or two flat screwdriver ?

One to hold the end and another one to push the middle upward (a bit).

I haven't tried that yet but that was actually my first thought. Someone told me they suspected that the Match Technical Thumbs Up might be a bit thicker than the Leica version where it fits into the hot shoe and that the pressure may have collapsed the spring. I kind of doubt this explanation because it seems unlikely the two brands wouldn't have exactly the same engineering specs for the part that slides into the hot shoe space.

When you used the screwdriver on your M10, did the fix last?

Thanks much!

Don’t worry. It is not because of the tump up. It is just a weakness in the design. Apply the trick with the screwdriver, or paperclip, to solve it.

Yes, my thought exactly. I don't see this as a big deal.

One more quick question. When this happened to you, were you using the Leica brand or Match Technical brand thumb grip?

Brent, it is poor design but curable since Leica put hotshoe in place of cold shoe which had strong springs.

I had done so since M4-P *, when I used for long aux VF on the hotshoe.

So once a while I need to play with screwdriver to push the weak spring up.

With M10, I use aux finders or Visoflex 020,

never use thumb-things.

* on M4-P and M5 was a bit better design with larger springs, but the flaws were done.

All of the accessories fit differently in the shoe on the M10. My Leica thumb grip probably fits the best. I just got a Haoge black thumb's up for my new black M10-P, and I had to put tape on it to snug up the fit.

I recall having to use a bit of tape to make s thumbs up tight on my first M10.
