N J Ducassi Posted August 6, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) A brand new SL2-s display became totally grainy while focusing. Then it was ok, this happened twice. It was just grainy texture not a grainy image. Has anyone experienced this?

This can give the appearance of grainy texture. Edited August 7, 2021 by michali

After changing lenses & as I was trying to focus indoors, the screen went all red & grain . I turned the camera off & on again it was OK. Very odd, I've had my SL2-S for 6 weeks & this is the 1st time it's happened. I had a similar issue with my CL, where the screen went all grainy when playing back images, that turned out to be the SD card. I had the same SD card for weeks, but maybe is a good idea to change it. I did try to contact Leica tech support in vain, they don’t answer emails or phone calls. Did you ever contact them successfully?
Ba Erv Posted August 7, 2021 Share #7 Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Lens? Focus Settings? EVF refresh rate? I’ve had a few issues with my SL2-S and the Sigma Contemporary lenses when using Spot focus. In fact, in Spot focus and hitting the magnification button will lock the camera up completely. Only removing the battery will reset the camera. Edited August 7, 2021 by Ba Erv

If you don't already have SD Card Formatter, download it here SD Memory Card Formatter , reformat your card & see what happens. I've reformatted both cards & see if the issue repeats. Good luck trying to get hold of Leica tech support. I normally deal with the Customer Service Dept. in Germany, they're responsive & helpful.
N J Ducassi Posted August 7, 2021 Author Share #9 Posted August 7, 2021 Thanks. I will keep posting on this issue. Let me know if the solution worked on your end. And thanks for the tip about customer service in Germany.

I've tried to replicate it based on your info. but all OK so far. Try another SD card, this sounds exactly like my issue with the CL which I mentioned in post #4 above. If that doesn't work, it may possibly have something to do with mounting the lens so that it locks fully into place. I've previously had a black screen on the SL2 after mounting Sigma lenses- solved by removing & remounting the lens with a firmer twist. The 45mm and 24mm would do the lock up occasionally but the 35mm was fine. Maybe it’s just something with the contacts slightly out of alignment. Hi I was using an M lens when it happened and spot focus. Thanks for the info. Hopefully it won’t happen again after the reset. When I call the Miami Leica store I was told they’ve never seen this, very frustrating. That’s usually the answer. So is good to get feedback from other users. LocalHero1953 Posted August 7, 2021 Share #13 Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) This has been reported several times here, and I think it was understood to be an intentional design issue, even if not a very satisfactory one. The notion is that while the processor puts all its energy into focusing it reduces the EVF resolution a bit to help keep the refresh rate brisk. This happens when focusing by Contrast Detect is difficult (low light or little contrast to detect), so it doesn't happen all the time. It's not something I have noticed, but that might be because when focusing is a struggle due to low light the image is a bit blurred anyway, so I'm not noticing anything different. Now the matter has been brought up again I'll probably see it all the time😉. Edit. Just read that you were using a M lens, not an AF lens - the issue I referred to was during AF - and I have no other suggestion to offer🤔 Edited August 7, 2021 by LocalHero1953
