grahamc Posted July 29, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone I've recently purchased an M6 TTL and decided to have it CLA'd just for peace of mind and to start my journey with the camera in it's best shape for the years ahead. The service-centre mentioned they will take the leatherette off / possibly replace. Is this a normal part of CLA ? The camera is a limited edition so actually has a skin on it that I'd like to keep. Of course I can/will ask them to retain it , however at this point I'm mostly curious whether it's general practice to remove the skin during a CLA as this is my first film M Thanks all ! There are screws under the covering they need to access. Not sure where you are, but check you know how long the CLA will take, as some top places are working on 6 months or more.
250swb Posted July 29, 2021 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2021 If it ain't broke don't fix it. Or at least use it to determine if there are any faults that can be reported to a technician because some things won't be covered by a regular CLA, they won't put a few films through it to find out. Remember it's only clean, lube, adjust, not a rebuild.
a.noctilux Posted July 29, 2021 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2021 Graham, yes as @pedaes wrote, as CLA routine, the leatherette must be replaced with M6. With older (vulcanite area, or M-A ? ), the covering could not be easily replaced. My suggestion is using the M6 for a while, maybe it doesn't need that CLA at all. In my experience, Leica M is not like a car/motorcycle which need regular service. Leica Ms need to be used regularly, only service if something goes wrong.

Interesting, thanks very much . Stupidly I didn't even consider that they have to remove it

grahamc Posted July 29, 2021 Author Share #8 Posted July 29, 2021 Thanks for the advice. I had a lens serviced recently and was really pleased with the result, so I think I was getting a bit carried away thinking I should get the new camera serviced for best results. That's probably not the case
