I’m having a problem with a Certified Pre-Owned Leica Q2 that I purchased from an authorized dealer a week and a half ago. I received the camera and noticed that the firmware was 1-2 rev’s back, so I flashed it to the latest version (I’ve done this like a million times before) and reset the configuration settings in the menus.

I took a few shots around the house, and everything seemed to work fine.

I’m going away this weekend and was getting the camera ready for my trip and immediately noticed that I’m having issues with it right after turning it on. When it powers up, I hear the lens trying to focus, and in the EVF, there is a big red outline in the EVF with the message “System Error (Focus)” when this happens, there is no menu that comes up. The camera is locked. I removed the battery for a few minutes and up to an hour and put it back in – same thing. I played around with it for a while, (for another hour) turned it off and on, and then it started working again for a bit. I also noticed that when it appeared to be working, the focus was a bit ‘hit or miss’ – it never seemed to lock on the focus and the AF brackets never turned from red to green.

I kept trying to turn the camera off/on and then it displayed in green letters, "Please turn the camera off and restart the camera" Now, it is displaying the “System Error (Focus)” again. I tried resetting the camera, a new battery and a new memory card – same thing.

You think that I got a defective camera? I called the dealer and am awaiting a call back. I'm certain that they will take care of it - replace it or refund my $$

The dealer is replacing the camera, but no more Certified Pre-Owned cameras are available. Actually, all Q2's are in extremely short supply.

They are replacing it with a new one, but I will need to pay the difference in cost.

Just happy to get a replacement at this time.

Good, glad you got it settled.  I returned three brand new Leica Q cameras because they all booted up with the System Error message. My fourth booted up normally.  I spoke to Leica USA about it and they asked me how I got it in that condition, I told them that all I did was follow normal startup.  I was told by them that it could be a fatal error.  It is documented on this site, but back several years.  You could do a search for the full discussion if you like.
