fotografr Posted June 19, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Our annual Paddle & Portage race is back after a year hiatus. Paddlers in canoes and kayaks put in on one lake and paddle to a buoy and back, which is about a mile. Then they portage across the road and past the lock and dam and put in on the river, which connects to another lake about a half mile away. They finish with another half mile route to a park along the lake where they get to consume all the beer they can drink. It's generally just considered a fun event but there's usually a small contingent who take it very seriously. Q2 Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted June 20, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 20, 2021 A lovely series, especially #2. As a kid in New Hampshire I remember real paddle and portage with canvas and wood Old Town canoes, and all the gear we needed for a few nights, traversing two or three lakes with portage in between. 1

There were a few entries here of hand made wood canoes and at least one kayak. They are gorgeous. I'm just waiting for someone to show up with a hand made birch bark canoe. Many years ago I photographed a guy who made them in his garage and turned out one every three or four months. As you can imagine, they were not inexpensive.
