Hi, has anybody tried the TTartisians 90mm F1.25 lens?

https://www.amazon.com/TTArtisan-F1-25-Leica-M-Mount-Cameras/dp/B094W43WC1

I havent found any reviews of the lens yet but it sound like it might be a good portrait lens.

It's less than a month old probably that's why.  DPreview has something did you check?

you can expect the IQ like most other big TTA guns - soft and CA wide open.

I currently have a review sample of the TTArtisan 90mm 1.25.
It has a really big entrance pupil for the money, but in terms of sharpness it is optimized for ~ 2-4 m focus distance
and indeed rather soft closer to the minimum focus distance (1.0 m).

Personally I generally question the usefulness of 1 kg M-mount lenses, but being comparably cheap
I see a market for people getting one as an additional special purpose lens.

It has a tripod socket which is probably a good idea, but I am not a fan of the aperture diaphragm
as you get severe ninja star shapes stopped down.
But yeah, if you don't want to shoot often at f/1.25 don't get a 1 kg 90mm f/1.25 lens I guess.

PS: I also have a pre production Zhong Yi 90mm 1.5 as a review sample at the moment.
More on that when it is officially been announced 🙂

Thanks a million. Your shots really show the lens off very well. I would be using the lens for business plus editorial style portraits.

wow the subject really pops and has that 3d look to it. A bit of medium format feel to it because of that 1.25 aperture.

For business portraits especially keep in mind über-shallow DoF is not always desirable.

Anecdotally, I find at close distances (head or head and shoulders), 85mm at f/2 is stretching it (be it SLR or RF focusing), you already start having trouble getting the whole face in focus (and not just the eyes). For artistic purposes this might be fine, but for business portraits you don't want, say, the nose being out of focus when the eyes are in focus.

I find the TTArtisans lenses amazing quality for the money.  I use the 50mm f0.95 and 35mm f1.4 along with the 7Artisan 75mm f1.25.  I also adore my German Glass of course 135mm f2.8 Elmarit, 90mm f2 Summicron (pre APO), 75mm f2.5 Summarit, 50mm f2 Summicron (silver chrome).  I even use a dinky Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM V1 (from 1957).  Each of these lenses produce a different look and feel and are used regularly.  I love fast glass for portraiture and the lens does not need to be super sharp in the corners to appeal to me.  As long as the subject can be useably sharp (ie sharp eyes), the rest can blur as needed as I usually shoot wide open.

Dammit.... now I need to find me a TTA 90mm 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

PS.... the image below was shot on a M9 Monochrom using a Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM (v1-1957) 📷

I have the 7Artisans 75mm f1.25 and like has been stated above about the 90 it's pretty soft at min focus wide open but you add a little distance and it sharpens up nicely. The 75 is as big as I would want to carry around at 1.5 lbs where the 90 f 1.25 is at 2.2 lbs/ 1 Kg. But then nobody makes a speed lens that is small and light, so you make your choice and have fun.

Thanks a million for posting this. Would you have any head and shoulder portraits with it? Ideally wide open and at about f4, please.
