I have made this mistake several times lately. And I have no excuse. But I dont bring my camera with me on short, trivial trips. Like today, I took some kids with me to harvest some rhubarb. I told them we should make cake (but my secret plan was to make wine). Nevertheless, when we arrived in the field we were met by a cosy cow, some friendly goats and three sceptical lamas. Oh my, I missed some great opportunities today🤦🏻‍♂️

Lama in Oslo 🤔.

Still it is a very nice story. I understand you very well. Since I own my M10 I very rarely go out without it. Exactly for the reasons you described above. And not to forget: At home my M10 is alway in my entrance on a table. I can quickly get it when my children are here (adults though).

It’s true. Actually, it’s not that uncommon in some farms in eastern Norway. Why I dont know. I feel the pressure now, and think I have to go back very soon just to document 😉

During our first visit to Australia in 1986 or so we went out to dinner in Sydney in "The Rocks."  As we approached a parked Datsun something looked wrong - The back seat was removed and replaced with two live sheep.  Since then I've almost always had a camera with me, usually a Q since it's so small and capable, but sometimes the Vlux 114 if I expect wildlife opportunities.  Of course they both come along on holidays.

This thread is such a useful encouragement.  Yesterday I went for a walk with a friend.  The meadow we passed was chockful of wild poppies that had suddenly come into bloom.  The view was stunning.   Of course my camera was at home.  I did take an iPhone photo 🙄

I had to go back today. Just to prove I am not a liar ;) A quick stop driving my youngest home from school. She was delighted of course ("DAD, I WANT A COW! 🙄). Different light, different setting, only my own kid and no rhubarb, but anyway.

There are a few laws in photography
1° to choose shooting wide angle using a wide angle lens but encounter awesome macro stuff (very frequent in underwater photography)
2° leaving the camera at home because the grocery shop is just a hop away but on the way/there to encounter some particular situations
3° having the camera always with me but not using her while having the camera at home I probably could use it

The small size of the Q2 was the main reason to buy her and I still have her much more with me than my D800 rig.

Chris

P.S. The excellent quality of modern cell phones is a big temptation to leave her at home, but the Q2 is still far superior!
