I just received a used Leica APO-macro-elmarit-R 100mm in almost perfect condition. However, it doesn't have a front cap. While for this particular lens, a front cap doesn't seem to be the most important thing in the world, I still would feel better to have something...

I was wondering (and I am aware that this might be a stupid question): does anyone know whether there's some place where I can find a front-cap that fits? I don't care whether it's Leica, Nikon, or some weird Chinese brand...

FWIW I have gone down a different route.

I use a tiffen E60 → E55 step-down-ring on the APO-100-R.  It fits like it was made for the lens and opens up access to E55 filters, which are much more plentiful and inexpensive.

E55 also means you can use vintage or new or any other kind of cap.

BTW, the same step-down ring also works with the first version of  Macro-Elmarit R 60/2.8, which has an E60 thread.

Awesome, thank you so much for your quick answer!

It seems that this still exists which was a happy surprise. So I ordered one 🙂

Of course. It is the same as Noctilux-M 50mm f/0,95 cap.
same E60.
But you can also order the E60 cap for TL lenses. If you want the inner pinch mechanism.

Enjoy the 100 R macro !  It is a wonderful lens.  One of Leica’s R masterpieces.
