Kiran Posted May 22, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Zeiss 35 f2 Biogon and 50 f2 Planar for use on an M10R. I have come across articles about them being calibrated for film rather than digital sensors so there would be front focus errors. These were particularly relevant to the M9. Does anyone know if this would be a problem with the M10R? Thanks
Advertisement Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Hi Kiran, Take a look here Any Zeiss focus errors with M10R?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pedaes Posted May 22, 2021 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2021 (edited) Welcome to the Forum and we look forward to seeing some pics . I think that is probably outdated opinion. That said, I think with the 35mm f2 you will struggle resolution wise and you will do better with f2.8 Biogon. Leica have just launched the 35mm APO for a reason. If you have an R surely the whole imaging chain has to be excellent, including our own techniques. Edited May 22, 2021 by pedaes
Photoworks Posted May 22, 2021 Share #3 Posted May 22, 2021 I had sent my camera and lens to get calibrated, I was seeing focus differences at 0.95 and 1.4 . I was not able to get infinity focus. This was on the M10-p M10-r has be wonderful for now. I don't know where you can send in the Zeiss lenses for that. Some older lenses had back focus issues, nothing on the newer generation, but it is a Lens problem and not the camera.
TomB_tx Posted May 22, 2021 Share #4 Posted May 22, 2021 I have both the f2 Biogon & Planar. They are excellent on my M10.

jaapv Posted May 22, 2021 Share #6 Posted May 22, 2021 As far as I know these lenses exhibit no focus shift. (i.e. shifting of the focal plane when the aperture is stopped down). A camera cannot exhibit focus shift, as that is a lens property. It is indeed true that older Zeiss lenses used a different calibration than Leica did, but that has not been the case for many years any more. If camera and lens are delivered properly set up, the combo should focus perfectly. 1

haikos Posted May 27, 2021 Share #8 Posted May 27, 2021 Correct me if I am wrong but I think OP means to say focus error rather than focus shift.
