Camaro5 Posted May 15, 2021 Share #1  Posted May 15, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm using an 18-56mm lens on my CL but also have a Sigma 16mm. I updated the firmware for the Sigma lens with an SD card and not the USB dock and it installed properly to Version 1.1. When I put the Leica 18-56mm back on the camera the lens firmware still shows the Sigma version. I am not real clear on how lens firmware works. If you are using different lenses with different firmware does the camera recognize the lens that is on it? I don't see any kind of list or menu item that shows if there are different firmware versions for different lenses.  According to Leica the 18-56mm does not have any kind of updates so that could be the reason the firmware version did not change, and in any case, the lens works fine. I was just curious how this works if different lenses are used.

wda Posted May 15, 2021 Share #2 Â Posted May 15, 2021 A good question. I do not understand why your CL retains Sigma lens status, when the Sigma lens is not fitted.

So I think possibly the 18-56 is running version 1:1 anyway,  firmware versions in menu do not show lens title.
Camaro5 Posted May 16, 2021 Author Share #4  Posted May 16, 2021 Had to go to the Leica Store here in Las Vegas today to get a screen protector put on my CL. Could've done it myself but they do it for free (with no air bubbles), so why not?   Anyway, I asked the manager about the lens firmware. He said that it could be that both of my lenses have the same version number but regardless of that the camera will recognize which lens is on it. He said to try and reinstall the Leica 18-56 firmware to see if there is a problem. I tried it and the camera gave a message that that firmware was already installed so I'm confident everything is up to date and working properly.
jaapv Posted May 16, 2021 Share #5  Posted May 16, 2021 Your store manager is right, the lens firmware is specific for the lens and separate from the camera firmware.
Mike1974 Posted May 19, 2021 Share #6  Posted May 19, 2021 I've just bought a second had 18 - 56mm , as soon as I put the lens on my CL , I had a lens firmware message. Soon after I have version 1.1 on my lens. So no worries
