A lens was an essential tool for renaissance -and later- painters. The haze is just behind the object. Tonal perspective. I am still waiting for examples of famous painters who incorporated such blinding flaws in their pieces. It is sad, that these days people think everything is great just because it is different. In my opinion these inherent flaws do not give a picture depth, they just distract from the main subject. Maybe such techniques are needed by those not able to create an interesting picture by the means of composition, contrast or actually having an interesting subject in the first place. If the optical flaws of a lens are the only aspect that define your pictures I think it might be worthwhile to rethink that artistic approach.
capo di tutti capi Posted May 13, 2021 Share #23 Posted May 13, 2021 (edited) Vignette, no details in non-main characters, color accent, tonal perspective, etc. Almost all painting uses these techniques. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swing_(Fragonard) Learn how to look at the pictures correctly. capo di tutti capi Posted May 13, 2021 Share #24 Posted May 13, 2021 (edited) M-Leica lenses are art, not technical specifications. Not every photographer can show the character of the lens leica UPD. Now you know why you can't use lenses on a crop sensor. The crop will cut off the edges and leave only a flat center. With the 'correct' subject-matter (to illustrate this aspect) the results are anything but flat. Philip. Edited May 13, 2021 by pippy

Yes, Voigtlander 40mm f1.4 one of my favorite lenses. The classic Voigtlander series is the most interesting. He has just such a drawing. But it is better to use it on the FF sensor. It's like putting a small screen in a cinema instead of a big screen. Or paint over with black paint. Part of the image will fly by. capo di tutti capi Posted May 14, 2021 Share #31 Posted May 14, 2021 (edited) Onion rings?! Seriously?! Ahaha! Why did you do that? How can I forget this? Up to this point, I've only seen a drawing on any lens. Help me forget this lab test! I thought the bokeh was shaped like rings Are you photographers or laboratory technicians? Photography is an art. The Carl Zeiss is twice the size of the 21mm f 3.5 Voigtlander. I love slower speed lenses. I like 50mm f 3.5 or 2.0 instead of 1.8 and 1.4. I looked at millions of pictures and didn't have the strength to look at all the carl zeiss lenses. In this world, very few people make good content. Mostly fences, monuments and bokeh branches. capo di tutti capi Posted May 14, 2021 Share #39 Posted May 14, 2021 (edited) On Flickr, only one photographer in a thousand was able to show the charakter of a 50mm 0.95 lens. The same situation with another lenses too.... Don't worry if you don't like this effect. It will not happen. Verified by 99.9% of photographers.
