THANKS.  It is VERY sharp, it is more the focal length (could use a bit more reach) I am concerned with, but I have some great extenders as well.

That is one of the very few lenses that is so highly specified that it is diffraction limited.

Specifically the Canon 400mm 5.6 L USM + MC-21 combo that also takes 1.4&2x canon TCs. That lens didn't have IS and thus can be had for €7-900, Originally mostly used for bird in flight on sunny day shots now can enjoy IBIS. It's super sharp, weighs 'nothing' and produces great images handheld with SL2 due to IBIS.

It complements the 90-280 perfectly for me.

 

 

Yes I had the 400 f5.6 in my Canon days and was very happy with it for sharpness and for BIF it had no peer given its weight. Might think of it as an option on the sl2, as you say, now we have ibis.
