OuldeGuy Posted May 6, 2021 Share #1  Posted May 6, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has the weather sealing required the thumbwheel hard to turn?  For example, if shooting in full manual mode, and holding the camera to the eye, you may wish to adjust exposure or whatever is programmed by thumbing the wheel.  On my Q2 I cannot easily do so. Or is it time for a Leica repair technician?
Advertisement Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 Hi OuldeGuy, Take a look here Stiff thumbwheel. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gteague Posted May 6, 2021 Share #2 Â Posted May 6, 2021 i struggle with the wheel on mine as well. part of it is shooting left-eyed means that the right side of your face sometimes interferes with you being able to get to it. but i think the difficulty in turning it is by certain design. i have a panasonic s1 which i can't carry in a way where the exp-comp wheel doesn't turn when rubbing against some part of my body. drives me nuts to put the camera up to my eye and have -5 ev dialed in. /guy
Janne_Amunet Posted January 31, 2022 Share #3  Posted January 31, 2022 Hi! I'm just wondering whether either of you had your camera checked and repaired? My thumbwheel got insanely stiff and difficult to turn after one month of use, and I'm wondering also whether I have to send mine in to get repaired.
OuldeGuy Posted January 31, 2022 Author Share #4  Posted January 31, 2022 Janne - with more use, the thumb wheel on my Q2 has loosened somewhat and is now not an issue for me. I did not send it off for repair but I did ask an experienced Leica Q user for her opinion which, as expected, was enjoy - it's a Leica. thrang Posted May 18, 2024 Share #5 Â Posted May 18, 2024 I am struggling with a stiff thumb wheel on my Q3 - the the point of slight burning and redness on my thumb given how stiff - stiffer turning left than right, but neither is great - much less refined than my M11. Can other Q3 owners comment on their experience? It makes exposure comp difficult, and you easily skip a step or two because of it. Thanks

SLamb Posted May 18, 2024 Share #7  Posted May 18, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Same here. The wheel on my Q3 does require some pressure to move it but I wouldn't describe it as stiff and I'd rather it be this way than looser and easily turned by accident.
thrang Posted May 21, 2024 Share #8  Posted May 21, 2024 Thanks - I have an SL3 and M11, and the SL is by far the smoothest/easiest to adjust. M11 a but stiffer than that, but still not difficult. The Q3 is far stiffer than the M11… I guess I will drop at Leica in New Jersey to look at this…
EV80 Posted January 14 Share #9 Â Posted January 14 I have the same problem, after almost two years of intensive use it is still very stiff. Has anyone solved it? If so, should I take it to a service center or is there another solution? Thanks! Â
Aram Langhans Posted January 27 Share #10  Posted January 27 I have notice that the wheel is much stiffer on my Q3 than it was on my Q2. I am sure there is some variability between different bodies. I am hoping it will loosen up a bit as time goes by, with the previous post, maybe not. Leslie22 Posted January 28 Share #11  Posted January 28 I use the wheel in manual for ISO …. Boy is it stiff.
David Wien Posted January 28 Share #12 Â Posted January 28 No problems here with my Q3 after more than a year of use. I suggest that those who have problems should take their camera to the local Leica store ASAP to have it evaluated and, if necessary, fixed before the wheel seizes up completely.
