Get a used T to tide you over; It should be South of 500$ and you can always sell afterwards (but you may want to keep it ;) )

+1

Many older version of some digital caneras are seriously misjudged, not just Leica.

I recently got a Fujifilm XE1 from a garage sale. It is 16MPs and coats me US$100, but I found its color ssofnificantly better than its newer versions (24mp). The most obvious is the skin tone. I suspect its larger sensor elements might he the contributor.

I dont see the same in Leica CL vs T, but I dont see T inferior either (not counting split  hair enlargement).

I don’t think the T series was very popular in the US or maybe all of their owners are quite happy to keep them. I looked at the usual places including Fred Miranda and don’t see T/TL/CL series for sale. Is there another source one would suggest in the US to look?

They pop up occasionally on FMiranda or RFF. Sometimes one of the Leica Stores will have one online. That’s where I found my TL, which I bought to convert to IR.

Actually this talk of getting a T is making me go back to the TL2.  As the sensor of the CL is great and the TL2 has the same sensor, only the interface is different.  For TL2 owners, how many use it without an attached EVF or if using the EVF, what percentage use of using the LCD only?  This may be more intuitive for my wife and kids as they use only their iPhones as their camera and may even like the TL2 enough to take pictures of me for a change.

The CL has a better EVF and can be used with Live View. I would not see that as an argument. The reason to buy a T series camera is that one likes the camera concept and user interface.

Yes, I agree Jaapv.  After becoming used to the digital Leica interfaces on the M, SL and Q series which are similar to an extent, I agree that they are simple and very pleasant to use compared to the only other camera systems (digital) I have used, including Nikon and Olympus.  I do like the iPhone interface even more and am intrigued as I don't change much after setting ISO and shoot aperture priority almost always.  I also would be relieved from having to use a viewfinder, either optical or electronic and just use the back screen to frame, focus and shoot.  It would be a new minor paradigm in picture taking as from changing from a view camera to the first Leica.

The TL2 may be the camera for me if there is noTL3 coming. though the next generation CL2 is coming and it seems silly to go with older tech when new developments are just about to be introduced.  However, if one is persistent to wait for the next best thing, one may never commit.  Thank you for the link to the Adorama used TL2.  Who knows, it may arrive sooner than the TL 18-56 which is in transit now.

Welcome, gg.   As a newcomer, why is your interest aroused?

Thanks for the welcome.  I’ve been reading posts for a while, but never posted till now.

I like the current CL, but have heard the rumours of the CL2, so interested to see what Leica does with it.

I currently have a Leica Q and Sony FF system.   Wondering if the CL could fit in as a replacement and/or companion.

Probably best to wait and see. You are well equipped at present, assuming you are happy with your Sony kit.

I received my new TL2 from Hong Kong -> Santa Monica in 2 days.  This is a record for me.  So far, I think I like this camera much more from the start than my M's and SL's.

Likes:

  1. size/weight:  fits my hand very well and the weight with the 18-56 zoom is light compared to even my Ms with any small lens (my favorite travel lens is the 28 Elmarit ASPH).
  2. interface:  iPhone like and fully customizable.  I changed the video button to picture review. Even not reading the manual, I can figure out how to program most of functions to my needs after less than an hour.
  3. (using with out Visoflex) No need to bring the camera viewfinder to your eyes; frame about 6-9 inches away from your face.
  4. The autofocus and release feature is nice; just touch the desired focus point on the rear screen and the shutter is released as well.
  5. Fast enough autofocus for me.
  6. Leica was kind enough to include all of the adapters for world wide travel.  In addition, the charger adapters attach directly to the charger it self.  No need for a cord which is another less item to forget or pack.
  7. For airplane travel, I can pack my camera with the TL 18-56 with charger/SD cards/extra battery + travel CPAP machine/tubing/mask + iPad (for movies) and small laptop (to stay in touch with my business) all in one carry on which is a Tumi Alpha backpack.  Even with all of this, it is not even close to being stuffed and is comfortable to carry.

Dislikes:

  1. hood:  large, plastic and unwieldy.  I ordered a rubber collapsible B+W hood for protection while the camera is in the bag.
  2. Proprietary fiddly strap attachments.  I do not like the included rubber strap and will get the Match Technical lug adapters so I can attach a conventional leather strap.

Most importantly, I have not yet processed any files yet but will do so shortly.  I don't plan on using the Wifi function at this point as I just post process on a desktop only.

As the owner of TL2, and having read your needs and knowledge with the iPhone interface, I can assure you that your choice is correct and you will enjoy it very much.

I am at your disposal to answer you (as long as I know it) in any questions that may arise regarding the Leica TL2 camera.

About straps look at this thread:

TL2 with the 18-56, it is very versatile and will give you a lot of play to take good photos.
The small 18mm is very light and keeps the camera always by your side.
It was the last purchase I have made and I am happy.
See thread here ...:

Let us know when the camera arrives ...

Thank you very much Dopaco.  I am enjoying the TL2 very, very much.  So much so that I am already contemplating a smaller, faster wide angle which against my earlier inclinations of a one camera/lens kit, would be optimal for visiting lower light environs such as the Taipei night market which my daughter has wanted to experience for several years. This 2nd lens would absolutely be the last lens in this lightweight travel system 😀for now.

Leica supply strap lugs for the TL2 and they are very nicely made. Better than some of the third party options that I've seen. I have no experience of the Match Technica ones but I just wanted to alert you to the fact that there is an OE solution to the strap lug problem.
