DaveNC Posted April 22, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 22, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Testing the Q2M today to see what if anything I may want to do automatically when importing. I see no change when applying the Built-In Lens Correction Profile in LR. And, other than image-specific artistic alternations, I really see nothing I need to do to the images. What, if anything, are you doing to your Q2M files regularly or upon import? Thanks
Advertisement Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 Hi DaveNC, Take a look here Q2M and LightRoom - do you do anything normally?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hdmesa Posted April 22, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 22, 2021 In Lightroom, the embedded manufacturer lens profile is already applied and cannot be turned off or changed. You will never see the uncorrected Q/Q2/Q2M files in any Adobe product. Leica marks the profile as mandatory, and Adobe honors this. In Capture One, you can turn off corrections and "uncrop" the image if you're curious. In C1, I often leave the lens distortion correction on (because it has a fisheye-effect look with it off) but I will uncrop the image to gain back the entire full frame image that you never see in Lightroom. This is really only useful for wide-aperture shots at close distance where corner sharpness is not an issue. For landscape stopped down, you won't want to uncrop ever, since the corners on the Q are already a bit soft even with all corrections and crop applied. As for anything applied on import, in C1 there are several "curve" options, which may correspond to the profiles in Lightroom such as "Adobe Color", etc. Not sure what options Lightroom gives you for the Q2M, but in C1 I'm happy with the "DNG Standard" curve, though sometimes I change it to "Film Extra Shadow" depending on the image. The key to getting good images from the Q2M is to never blow the highlights in the original exposure. And if for any particular shot I had to use a lot of negative exposure compensation in camera, then in post I can raise the exposure back up and use the Highlights slider or other means to recover the highlights.
