Again, I would buy my M2 or M4 from a reputable camera store or dealer like Tamarkin in Chicago or Classic Connection in New Jersey.  Besides a warranty on the camera, they both allow no hassle returns for up to two weeks.  Give Tamarkin or Classic Connection a call and talk to them.  I think you will be impressed.  I know they both have great reputations in the Leica community.   Tamarkin presently has two M2's (chrome) for $1500 or $1700.  And Tamarkin's does CLA all used film cameras.  They sell only Leica cameras so are very knowledgeable and Stan's favorite camera is a button rewind M2.

If buying from a private individual, I would spend time talking to them before any money changes hands and would want to have some type of return guarantee.  I have found buying from individuals on rangefinder forum much better then buying from eBay (never purchased anything from eBay).  Have purchased a couple lenses from the want ad section of rangefinder forum without any problems at all.

+1 I've dealt with a lot of Leica dealers and Tamarkin is by far the best in my experience.  Phenomenal customer service, I wouldn't personally consider buying from anywhere else.
