How about the 50mm Lux or Apo? Or do you think they are taken with a 35mm?  Many Thanks, Best,  Giulio. Welcome, dear visitor! evikne Posted March 19, 2021 Share #2  Posted March 19, 2021 I don't think they are taken with a modern lens. Looks more like a 50mm Summilux pre-ASPH for example.
giulio1986fi Posted March 19, 2021 Author Share #3 Â Posted March 19, 2021 Thank you, focal lens wise, would you say 50mm more than 35?

No need to underestimate older lenses. They can be very sharp, especially when stopped down a little bit. But I don't see any of the biting sharpness and high resolution you get from modern lenses. Although the pictures are detailed, I think the rendering is still quite gentle.
anickpick Posted March 19, 2021 Share #6 Â Posted March 19, 2021 Hedi Slimane is a master photographer. He has a very specific style, knows how to handle the light. He often uses medium format cameras, but yes, he uses Leica M too. As the photos are cropped, it is impossible to say, which lens he used. I am sure he could have realized that look with any fast modern Leica lens.

I have a rigid summicron (v2) and it holds up vs other lenses brilliantly on modern digital sensors. You’ll see differences around contrast and sharpness into the corners, but for most work, it’s brilliant and the rendering is beautiful.  I wouldn’t say an apo is going to get you to results above - to be honest in the world of Lightroom and photoshop you can pretty much create any look with any lens.
mmradman Posted March 19, 2021 Share #8  Posted March 19, 2021 The last one [the band] was taken with flash. All are taken in different light so it is not like for like comparison. In common [apart form the last one] all seem ot have been taken with lens stopped down as there is fair amount of sharpness in depth. As few other posts suggest it could have been any lens, old or new.  My first impression/first picture was 50mm stopped down - maybe f4 or f5.6. Light add more to the image than any particular make of lens or camera sensor. I suspect this kind of query is born out of internet chatter where lenses are given mythical qualities as being particular brand. Modern and some legacy Leica M lenses are among the best optics available particularly fully opened but as the pictures seem to be taken with aperture closed down difficult to say.
Erato Posted March 19, 2021 Share #9 Â Posted March 19, 2021 Here's some clue for you. I hope that helps -- on P.4, the bokeh is a pentagon. P.1 --Â the Model is Rianne Van Rompaey@Celine And the man with a cigar is Jean-Luc Godard. Â https://www.hedislimane.com/diary/ Â
a.noctilux Posted March 19, 2021 Share #10 Â Posted March 19, 2021 1 to 6 square format with (as Erato stated above) pentagon high light, for me Hasselblad with Zeiss lens(es) look at the detailled and thin dof even stopped down, not with 24x36.

Was thinking a rolleixflex could work too but you'd need a close up lens....
a.noctilux Posted March 19, 2021 Share #12 Â Posted March 19, 2021 (edited) Take a look at Planar Zeiss lenses for Hasselblad, you'd see pentagon opening of aperture close down a bit. Sorry 🙈 The link to KR pic didn't work so I added another link.  How I see, I don't know. The obvious high light pentagon ( or ninja stars on Contax lenses or 50 Summilux asph. ) was something that bothered me when I used Zeiss/Planar lenses.
