My order has been in for over a year, but even then it was said to be a year behind the 28.  From the published drawings that accompany one of Peter Karbe's lectures, there appear to be significant differences between the three wide angles, with the 24 closer to the 28 (but the front elements seem to be different and there are three of them, not two).  The 21 as drawn is even more complex.  The M line has had two announcements in the 21 and 24 focal lengths.  First, about 2008, was a 21 and 24 Summilux, which appeared together.  Then five or six years later, the 21 and 24 Super-Elmars appeared together.  In each case, the 21's seemed a bit better (on specifications), the 24 a derivative effort.  Anyway, I'm enjoying working with the relatively tiny Sigma Commercial 24 L-mount lens for the moment.  It's excellent.  It can be pushed even closer to the subject than the SL Summicrons (2:1 instead of 5:1).  But when you do this, all but the center goes soft, so you know why the Leica ultra wide angles are more constrained.  As all of these are internal focusing lenses (an AF requirement), I don't think a macro adapter will get you any closer.

I don't understand your question.  The Leica 28, and someday 24 and 21 will fit into the same frame and have the same sized external controls.  (Important if you do video with external focus controls.)  Sigma's "Contemporary" line is much smaller and each lens is a different size.  Why not?

The Sigma contemporary 24 is too slow. I need at least an f/2. The Q2 works fine for now :)
