IQ aside, the APO would have been more appealing to me without the long focus throw to accommodate the closer focusing, in a more compact and simple configuration.  Sometimes less is more, especially when the 'more' in this case cannot be accommodated via the traditional RF, which is my only M viewing mode.

Jeff

Yes, the rotation from 0.3M to infinity is a long way home.

But, you don’t have to go closer than 0.7M, and it’s just a normal incredible M mount lens if used so.

Silly me, I thought the comparisons were going to be pics ‘using’ the lenses, not pics ‘of’ the lenses. 🙃

Don’t rub it in 😭

If it had a hard stop, but it appears not. Not something I’d want to think about. And it extends the lens unnecessarily otherwise.

True, if you’re in quick movement you could overshoot the bump.

Sure the APO35 raises the bar to another level, but the lenses we’ve been using so far haven’t become lemons overnight 🍋

Happy to do snow, of course if it’s not snowing still ... it’s the rain that isn’t helpful with changing lenses to shoot with one camera and level the playing field

No rush... just playing.

My 35 Summicron ASPH v.1 still serves well, and I expect no compelling reason to sell or trade my FLE.  The comparisons are more for fun, especially given screen shot limitations.

Exactly ... besides, advancements in software tools have helped us so far and continue to improve. One good example is the new “Super Resolution” feature in ACR.

It's not a hard stop, but it's also impossible to miss. It's just a change that you need to get used to a couple of days, and then you forget about it and live with it in your subconscious. If I dare to compare it to the infinity lock, it's just a matter of getting used to it, and then it becomes muscle memory.

But I think you’re using on an SL body; for me it would be annoying and useless on an M using RF.  I dislike infinity locks, too.

You almost have a bigger 35 collection than mine ! A bit off topic, but this weekend I'm really interested in a pre FLE vs FLE comparison. Would love to hear your thoughts on that. There are two schools when it comes to this question, I'm curious to know which side you're on (if you do answer, please keep the focus shift topic out of it!).

35mm is my fav focal length! These are just the current/recent ASPH versions I compared the APO35 with here. Many more charming 35’s not pictured here ...

I did a comparison awhile ago, that shootout included the Zeiss ZM 35/1.4 though:

The 28 Lux is a brilliant lens. Better than all the 35 ever made by Leica, imo, 35APO included. It’s also usually a better focal length than 35 for indoor use.

You can’t be serious. Did you overlook the rather copious amounts of CA wide open? A brilliant lens, but I wouldn’t say it’s better than the APO35. Ok, also a bit hefty and chunky, but in line with the 21/1.4 and 24/1.4

It baffles my mind how all these impression and comparison threads are all just talk and no photos. Why? Is it all just fashion nowadays? Go out and photograph, then open a thread and show some comparisons.

Does something so simple baffle you? Really?

Anyway, look at the screenshot of the weather situation. This is why I’m not able to go out to do the comparisons.

If you want to see some images shot with the lens, feel free to look at the image thread linked here, post 26 onwards.

If none of this is upto your satisfaction or liking, feel free to ignore these threads 🤷‍♂️
