M11M 50mm Summilux v3 @ f2

my only issue with the lens is that sometimes when I think it's at f1.4, it's slid up to another f stop.

The V2 and V3 have the same optical design which is different from the V1. The V3 only differs from the V2 in outer barrel design and mfd. The coatings on the lens also changed slightly over the years it was made.

Like the v1, the v2 also has a significantly longer focus throw than the v3. This may matter (or not) to some users. I find this to be the biggest practical difference between v2 and v3. The newly released 'V4' is an entirely different lens and is only loosely based on the v2, but retains its longish focus throw.

v3 (Ti) on M10P, wide open @ MFD

Funny, I was just thinking about the fact that I did not include the difference in the focus throw between the V2 and V3.

Ok SOLD!   😁  I think I want to buy one of these lenses.   I still find all the variants a bit confusing.  Is this what I'm after?   I hope its ok to post a link to an auction.   What exactly does the E46 reference, is it a model number or ?

@evikne  sorry if you just got like a gazillion notifications, I started at the beginning of this thread was hitting like like like, then realised this poor guy is going to get hit with so many notifications, so I stopped. Love all the images in here.

Your link is a v2, but I prefer the v3. Both are great lenses.

As, @Crem said, the link is to a version 2. E46 stands for the filter size, which is a way of separating v2 from v3. Here is a diagram showing the main differences. Both versions should be optically identical, so the rendering is the same:

Regarding the likes - you can never have too many likes. 😄 Thank you so much! ☺️ But I've mentioned to the forum admin before that there should be an easier way to check your notifications, e.g. by hovering over them and getting a small preview of which post it applies to.

Oh brilliant, thank you.  I will be hunting a V3.  Clem kindly messaged me and gave me some very welcomed advice. I love your work @evikne  your pics of whom I'm guessing is your daughter are just brilliant.

And of course E46 is filter size!  That helps.

Thank you, yes she is my daughter. She has to tolerate being photographed a lot. 😄

The diagram is very simplified of course. There are different colors and materials, and models that are rare and expensive. But the new Classic re-issue version (also called v4), is in a way a fusion of all, plus something new. Also worth considering if you'd rather have a brand new lens.
