Radost Posted February 25, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received this lens from japan. It seams like somethin is leaking from inside? Is it lube from CLA? What should i use to try to clean in? The whole ring between the barrel and the rear glass has that liquid. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Hi Radost, Take a look here Minolta 90mm F4 spot on rear of the lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted February 25, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2021 Looks like oil coming from the helicoid. I would clean the rear element with some Eclipse fluid or similar.
Radost Posted February 25, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted February 25, 2021 I rather send the lens to be cleaned somewhere. Do you know any places on the west coast that can do this service?
lct Posted February 25, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 25, 2021 US west coast i have no idea sorry.
Radost Posted February 25, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted February 25, 2021 What about the east coast? I guess the question is should I return the lens or just have it cleaned professionally. Apart from the oil it looks like a fine lens.

pgk Posted February 25, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 25, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oil should not leak out of the helicoid onto glass surfaces. You need to ask yourself why this has happened, and one possible explanation is that the lens has been somewhere rather too hot at some point. I'd return it myself as a CLA will be costly if it needs a full strip down, clean and regrease.
84bravo Posted February 25, 2021 Share #8 Posted February 25, 2021 A CLA from YYE will cost you about $125. Normally I think that's pretty reasonable. However, that's more than half the value of the lens.
spydrxx Posted February 25, 2021 Share #9 Posted February 25, 2021 IMHO no question about it...return it.
