dealy663 Posted February 18, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got myself a rather minty M6 Classic. One major source of annoyment is the fact that the eyepiece smudges my glasses.much more so than my other M cameras. Is there anything that can be done about this.Cleaning the ring in some way? Thanks Derek

nitroplait Posted February 18, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2021 I wear glasses and own a M6 Classic a well. I have not experienced smudging from the M6 but I have a Nikon FE2 that did smudge a bit. The FE2 have a rubber edge around the eyepiece like the M6, and a replacement piece solved the problem. Some years ago when I owned a M4, I was worried the metal eye piece would scratch my glasses, and was told it could be replaced with a M6 eyepiece. I never did, but if that is correct, I would imagine the reverse was true as well - in case the older style metal piece works better for you.
dealy663 Posted February 18, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted February 18, 2021 It is interesting, but I also have an M5 which has the metal eyepiece and that one doesn't smudge my glasses, nor does it seem to scratch. One of these two cameras is going to stay and the other will be sold. It is surprisingly tough to decide they each have roughly equivalent pluses and minuses
Jeff S Posted February 18, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 18, 2021 A different approach, albeit more expensive, might be to investigate differs glass type/coatings for your eyeglasses. Or, if you could benefit from a diopter (my aging eyes now require my glasses plus a +.5 diopter) for optimal focusing. That would also provide a different contact point for viewing. andrew01 Posted February 18, 2021 Share #5 Posted February 18, 2021 I use one of these on my M3 to avoid scratching my glasses. http://aki-asahi.com/store/html/patch/M2M3/eyepiece/index.php You could try one on your M6 to stop the rubber marking your glasses. TomB_tx Posted February 19, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 19, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Never had a problem with my M6 eyepiece, but a lot depends on your face shape, camera hold, etc. For earlier M models scratching glasses I've used these as a precaution, though scratching hasn't been a problem for me either. https://www.dagcamera.com/store/p109/Plastic_Eyepiece_Guard_for_all_metal_M_eyepieces.html

nicci78 Posted February 25, 2021 Share #9 Posted February 25, 2021 My local camera repair shop fitted an M7 plastic eyepiece over my metal M3 one. Works great, but it looked bulky. Because the plastic eyepiece is stretch over the old one.
