I wear glasses and own a M6 Classic a well. I have not experienced smudging from the M6 but I have a Nikon FE2 that did smudge a bit. The FE2 have a rubber edge around the eyepiece like the M6, and a replacement piece solved the problem.

Some years ago when I owned a M4, I was worried the metal eye piece would scratch my glasses, and was told it could be replaced with a M6 eyepiece. I never did, but if that is correct, I would imagine the reverse was true as well - in case the older style metal piece works better for you.

It is interesting, but I also have an M5 which has the metal eyepiece and that one doesn't smudge my glasses, nor does it seem to scratch. One of these two cameras is going to stay and the other will be sold. It is surprisingly tough to decide they each have roughly equivalent pluses and minuses

A different approach, albeit more expensive, might be to investigate differs glass type/coatings for your eyeglasses. Or, if you could benefit from a diopter (my aging eyes now require my glasses plus a +.5 diopter) for optimal focusing.  That would also provide a different contact point for viewing.

Never had a problem with my M6 eyepiece, but a lot depends on your face shape, camera hold, etc.

For earlier M models scratching glasses I've used these as a precaution, though scratching hasn't been a problem for me either.
