I own the M10-R and SL2.

The M10-R with Summilux 35 and APO Summicrin 50 is my go to travel kit. However, this past summer, we spent 2 weeks exploring National Parks in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Colorado. I took my SL2 and Leica 16-35 and 24-90 zooms. The SL2 and 24-90 was my walk about camera. I carried the gear in my back pack but since we were driving, I usually just had the camera and 24-90 lens on a shoulder strap. I brought a tripod, but never used it.

I was really glad that I had a zoom lens and IBIS. The resulting images weee awesome. The flexibility of the zoom and cropability of the SL2 DNG files allowed me to capture some portfolio-worthy images. Not having to change lenses in sometimes dusty conditions was a plus.

Although I had my 16-35, I only used it to shoot a few images at Horseshoe Bend. Next time, I would leave this lens home.

I did miss the more discreet M10-R while walking around town. Next time, I will bring the 24-90 for landscapes and my Summilux 35 FLE with the SL-M adapter for walkabout shooting.

it’s great to have choices.

Regards,

Bud James

I sold the 24-90, too big too havy for me. However the lens is really great when only image quality is the question. I am a M photographer... I hope Leica will bring a 28-70 non ibis lens on the market. Today I prefer the Tri-Elmar-M 28-50mm combined with the 24Elmar and if necessary the Macro 90. Otherwise if the trip is only for photo, the 24-90 SL is a good option. But I am never photo only on the road...

Well I have the SL2-S and the M10R so empathise with your ‘challenge’, I think it really depends on where your shooting. Normally I’d say the 35 Lux but in these Covid times allowing a bit more distance can be very useful and obligatory really; so in 2021 the 50mm APO from Leica or the new Voigtlander 50mm APO (I’m testing this out right now) seem like great options.

With the M mount adapter you can then of course use it with the SL EVF if you so desire.
