Is there any trick to getting the rings to open enough to attach to the camera lugs on the Q?  I am trying to get a Simplr F1 strap attached and it's much harder than anticipated.    I tried a thin screwdriver to try to pry the ring wider apart with no luck.

It seems their claim that the rings stay shut works a bit too well.

You already made it, so just for your information:
Your way with the small screw driver was the right one, but for stubborn, thick wire split rings there is a kind of a split ring plier.
Usually used to change hooks on big game lures but they work on any split ring and as they are inexpensive it's a good idea to have them in your home tool box.

+1 for split string pliers. Fuji used to include a small plastic tool that was very helpful, but I cannot find mine any longer :(.

As others have stated, I use these pliers to install and remove small split rings. These make it lot easier and they don't cost much:
