PeterMM1 Posted February 4, 2021 Share #1  Posted February 4, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently purchased as used M10 and in checking the owners manual, Leica does not specify which type of card works best for the camera. What capacity/type of card are you using and how are the buffering rates? My M10 seems to take forever to write and view a photo after I've taken a shot and I'm working on only 24MP files. I will say that I'm writing both .dng and .jpeg files....maybe I should just write the .dng instead...?

PeterMM1 Posted February 4, 2021 Author Share #2 Â Posted February 4, 2021 figured out that I have been using very slow cards....found one in my desk with 120Mbps write speed and it made a world of difference...just placed an Amazon order for even faster cards....LOL

darkinners Posted February 9, 2021 Share #6  Posted February 9, 2021 M10, M10-P, M10-R they are all UHS-I only. Just any card that exceeding R/W 104MB/S is a waste. However UHS-II card can give you much better speed for importing the image on to your computer.
Bill Valenti Posted March 19, 2021 Share #7  Posted March 19, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm a new M10Monochrom owner, and within first week had a freeze/crash.  Could not turn off the camera, none of the function buttons worked, and I got intermittent message on the EVF "No lens is attached" (which was not correct).  Uncertain if this was a major camera flaw or just a fluke, I returned the camera and am waiting for replacement.  While waiting, I have come across numerous comments - on this and other camera forums - that the crash/freeze can be caused by the SD memory card (I had a 128GB card installed when the camera froze).  Some comments suggested limiting SD card size to 64GB. I have contacted Leica Technical Support to inquire about this.  Any input from other M10 owners would be most helpful On 4/18/2020 at 8:00 AM, Gerbs said: Has anyone else been experiencing the occasional need to remove the battery to reboot the M10 Monochrom? I'll notice that it won't let me take a picture, pushing the shutter half down won't show the histogram, and sometimes (I think it's just sometimes) Live View is stuck on. I've shot about 450 pictures (not all keepers, LOL) in the past 3 weeks, and this has happened around 4 times. I think there might be a sequence that causes it, but I'm not sure yet. I have been using Live View a huge amount, turning it off after the shot to preserve battery life, and often turning off the camera. Sometimes the camera won't even turn off, I've got to take out the battery. Anyone else?
Dennis Posted March 19, 2021 Share #8  Posted March 19, 2021 I think this is the bets commitment for M10, I would buy today one of these: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1431034-REG/sandisk_sdsdxxy_128g_ancin_extremepro_sdxc_128gb_card.html?sts=pi&pim=Y I'm using now the old version of the above (mine is 95mb/s) and never had a problem with my M10 If you want more speed when downloading your photos, I guess this would be a good choice, but being UHSII, more expensive. But not as the San Disk UHSII 300mb/s https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1499806-REG/prograde_digital_pgsd128gbckbh_128gb_uhs_ii_v90_sdxc.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

I basically use it on every photo I take, but since I have gotten into the habit of turning LV off after every shot I have only had a couple of freezes. It's not from overheating, as some have suggested, as it has happened outdoors in 20°F weather. There may be other factors too, like perhaps turning on Play AND having LV on AND then turning Play off. I do know that turning LV off as much as possible seems to help prevent the freezes. Were you using Live View?
Narsuitus Posted March 20, 2021 Share #10  Posted March 20, 2021 (edited) The M10 is supposed to be able to use: SD cards up to 2GB SDHC cards up to 32GB SDXC cards up to 2TB When I went shopping for a Leica M10 digital rangefinder, I took a previously formatted SanDisk 8GB SDHC card and three M-mount lenses to test the camera. After I purchased the M10, I also purchased three brand new SanDisk 32GB SDHC cards. However, I was unable to capture any images on the new cards. I am now able to capture images on a brand new Lexar 16 GB SDHC card and on brand new 64GB SanDisk SDXC cards. Welcome, dear visitor! hdmesa Posted March 20, 2021 Share #11 Â Posted March 20, 2021 As has been noted in other threads, make sure you avoid any Sony Tough card. They are great cards, but the M10/P/R hates them. I switched to SanDisk and the slow write times, slow image review (M10-P) and lockups/freezes (M10-R) I was getting with the Sony Tough went away.
Harvard Kiwi Posted November 20, 2021 Share #12  Posted November 20, 2021 I see this forum has a guide to SD cards. I found it at the bottom of a notification email: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/sd-card-leica/?utm_source=transactionmail&utm_medium=intern The Sony Tough cards are rated as the best but given what @hdmesa said, I'm reluctant to shell out the extra and take the risk. I haven't had too many issues with SD cards over the years and currently use Sandisk Extreme Pro cards. I have a 256GB card in my M10 but am looking at getting two more cards as back-ups. Perhaps holding too many photos on a single card is a recipe for disaster. The question is, should I go for two 64GB cards or two 128GB cards? Herr Barnack Posted November 20, 2021 Share #13  Posted November 20, 2021 (edited) I have switched to using SanDisk SDXC in my M-P 240, M10M and Q2 - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1431034-REG/sandisk_sdsdxxy_128g_ancin_extremepro_sdxc_128gb_card.html I used Lexar SDHC cards at first, but my M-P 240 did not like them - I frequently had corrupted files. With SanDisk SDXC cards, I get a corrupted file once in a blue moon. High quality memory cards are worth a few extra dollars. They will save you a lot of heartache and frustration. maxfairclough Posted November 20, 2021 Share #14  Posted November 20, 2021 Old thread but have always used SanDisk cards ever since I started taking pictures 12 years ago. Never failed. Get SanDisk. Don't cheap out. It's not even expensive.

That looks like a list from an outside source that they added to a forum page and a way to make a little extra money from affiliate links. The ratings are real, but I don't think "Editor's recommendation" in this case means someone from this forum recommended them specifically for Leicas. Camaro5 Posted November 20, 2021 Share #18  Posted November 20, 2021 I've been using Sandisk SDXC UHS-1 cards in my M10. 170 MB/s speed. I have both a 256 and 64 GB cards and have no buffer or download issues. I tried a 64 GB Lexar card that I used on my MP 240 and even after re-formatting it on the M10 it just didn't work. Don't know why as it was fine on the other camera.
Jeff S Posted November 20, 2021 Share #19  Posted November 20, 2021 For my M10 Monochrom (no reason to be different than with an M 10-R) and SL2, I use San Disk Extreme Pro 64 GB, 170MB/s SDXC cards.  Many other threads on this topic.  Jeff
cp995 Posted November 20, 2021 Share #20 Â Posted November 20, 2021 Regarding the speed you can take every actual card for your M I do have a mixed feeling with SD in general, as I had some problems with broken cards in the past. So I think about switching to a Sony Tough card, but only for security reasons. Â
