Terrific, monochrome's just perfect for this one.

Thanks, Tom. I could see this from my window and had a hard time deciding whether to go out with a Mono or colour body. I was glad I went with the Mono.

Beautiful photo.

Is this Hoar Frost or Rime Ice?

The term “hoar” is a reference to the frosty coating and comes from the word hoary, which means white or gray with age, or showing characteristics of age. Rime ice is a deposit of ice that forms when supercooled cloud or fog droplets rapidly freeze when coming in contact with an object.”

Right you are. This is rime ice which formed as a result of the air being super saturated and the night temperature falling below freezing. I live very close to a river and lake where this happens fairly often. When the air temperature gets significantly colder than the water temperature, a stream rises from the water and freezes on contact with the trees and bushes. I used to think it was all hoar frost but this year a local meteorologist explained the difference and identified this as time ice. I'd never even heard the term before. So far this year it's happened three times in my area.
