Greetings!

New here with a recent purchase of an excellent condition Q.  I was wondering what accessories offer the best quality for the Q...

Looking for a protector case, a strap, and I want to replace the lens hood as the current one is pretty good shape but has the edges in a few corners showing metal.

Are the Leica brand accessories the best way to go?  Are there other brands to look for?

Any help is appreciated.

I think it all comes down to your specific needs.

I decided in comfort of holding/operation and slightly weighed that with protection.

in these “lockdown “ times I’m mainly operating one handed whilst holding my dogs lead in other hand so I wanted a better grip for my hand size firstly. The Leica hand grip was ok but I found it rather bulky and not totally comfortable to my grip. Next came a Thumbs Up which seemed to provide excellent control and very comfortable grip. So then I looked at cases. Being in the UK with obvious pandemic and Brexit I tried to find cases available within the country. The Leica protector looked fine and was found on sale but there was no front grip. Thus I sourced an Artisan and Artist which has some front grip and extends near top edge of camera. This in conjunction with the Thumbs Up provides a very comfortable hold for me even single handed and all the grip I desire. I added a paracord wrist straps for some added peace of mind and I’m ready to go.

Having changed to the Q2 now I’m glad I went with the A&A case as it fits exactly the same. Some will note its lack of bottom battery/card access as a negative but removing the body is simplicity itself and it has made the case useable on both the Q’s.

I imagine “trying “ accessories wherever you are is difficult to impossible so my suggestion is to decide what you need for comfort and ergonomics and work from there.

The Leica accessories are pricey but the quality is hard to beat. In fact they're actually cheap compared to the new Zegna accessories, which are all just about fashion really.

My set up is:

  • Leica Holster
  • I've got a JJC Hand Grip on the way as it allows the battery/SD card to be accessed without removing it. Therefore it can hopefully stay on my camera permanently unless it doesn't fit my holster, in which case I'll replace with the genuine Leica hand grip
  • Leica leather hand strap for the D-Lux 7
  • I've stuck with the original hood. It's very good at keeping rain drops off the lens, looks great and I don't see a need to change. If I use filters I just remove the hood entirely
  • I've bought a Nitecore battery charger so I can charge via USB in the house and on the move with a power bank
  • I bought a tiny Manfrotto Pixi tripod which holds the weight of the Q2 well when in landscape orientation
  • Screen protector for the rear of the camera

The Holster doesn't get a ;lot of love on here it seems. Several people are saying it's not a secure way to hold the camera. However they're missing that with the Holster, the camera is kept tight against your body at all times. It's not moving around on a shoulder strap and banging against you, so it's much more comfortable. The Holster allows you to quickly access and activate the camera for on-the-fly shots. It's part of the Q experience for me, it's brilliantly designed overall.

I love my Arte Di Mano case and waxed cotton strap. I have the model with a flap allowing easy access to the battery and memory card.

first rate craftsmanship and provides a better grip and protection. I got a long strap which allows carrying it cross body - works like a sling.

For the hood I would just touch up the bare metal parts with some flat black paint. Another alternative is the Lim’s Q/Q2 Lens Hood which allows easier access to filters if you plan on using them.

welcome to the forum.

Question...do the Arte cases for the Q2 also fit the Q?

also; are the Arte cases less bulky than the Pelle?  A Pelle case came with it but I am not sure on the thickness of leather...

Just buy the handgrip. It is awesome.

Get a protected filter 49mm. Then use the lens hood permanently and get rid of the stupid lens cap.

You Q will always be ready to shoot.

I don’t do protective filters.   I just leave the lens hood on permanently and have a rubber cover for it.

Will consider the hand grip but have a Peak Design hand strap already.

The Arte Di Mano cases for the Q and Q2 are different.  The Q2 case would not fit the Q as far as I know.

The Arte Di Mano case I have has a slightly thicker base to provide some structure when the bottom flap is opened  to access the battery and memory card. Otherwise it is about 3 mm thick. I do not have a Pelle case so I cannot compare the size. 😀

After looking for an original Q case from Leica and not finding one, I sort of gave up on that.  I guess the Q2 came out in mid-November but Q accessories are nowhere to be found.

Then I noticed that the Angelo Pelle cases are down to 200 Euros for the black leather model so I decided to buy the Pelle case   I like the new cleaner design quit a bit.  They are claiming a 2-3 day Fedex delivery.

Any thoughts on a black Pelle strap design to go with it?  It could also be a black leather Leica one...or other brand.

Depending of your shooting style a bit....

The rope type slides easy on clothing,  but a bit bulky to wrap around wrist and hand. Deadcameras have a nice slim strap, all leather and one can choose color of embedded dot near loops

Flat straps are plentiful in color and texture, so it's  really a personal thing. Choose style or utility - hard to get both

I just saw the deadcameras slim strap.  I think it looks cool with the red dots.  May have to try it.

my optionals are
- film screen protector, the Q2 has a new hybrid glass and film protector i would prefer
- hand grip
- thumb rest
- finger loop
- Case Logic Camera bag for only the Q/Q2
- LowePro bag for Camera, ELP52 macro lens and Metz strobe
I carry the camera either in a messenger bag or a sling "backpack" as i like to walk around below the thief radar

I received the black Q case from Angelo Pelle this morning...pretty fast shipping from the Lombardy region of Italy!

The quality is very good like my prior case but I am still waiting on the Simplr F1 strap to arrive. In any event time to go shoot some photos with the Q over lunch break.
