Collar is not a perfect fit as it does touch the body's lens release button but does not press it so the lens stays securely mounted. No clamp marks left on the lens. Collar needs attaching loosely before mounting lens on camera – whence collar can then be tightened. The Leica STA-1 collar is a scarce item and usually commands a premium price – but I already had one for use with my R 100/2.8 APO lens. Not recommended to tighten the collar too much because doing so could compress the rear element group. I've used it twice with the Sigma 105/2.8 Macro and the camera lens combination was better balanced than when used without the collar.   Ideally, a narrower collar would be better but I have not tried sourcing same.

OK Dunk, I have noted your experience with this collar on the Sigma 105.

I just saw a second-hand STA 1 collar but I'll wait because I'm getting an Ishoot collar tomorrow that might fit (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08RNHDDQQ/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
The diameter is 66 mm (open or closed, I don't know...) I will see according to the result...

Otherwise I'll settle for a 10 cm long quick release plate, something like this : https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/65192383?image=0
For the vertical views my left hand will support the optics...

Hello Dunk,

I received this morning the Ishoot tripod collar (66 mm).
A beautiful piece very well machined, with Arca Swiss compatible plate base (ideal for my Benro tripod head.)

It goes very well on the Sigma 105 macro with a cutout so as not to rub on the lens lock on the body. The collar holds the optics very well but it must be tightened well. A diameter of 65/65.5 mm would have been ideal.

But I found a trick by adding a very thin 3M adhesive film that I cut precisely and installed on the 3M film already present inside the collar.
Now it's ideal and the optics hold firmly without overtightening the collar screw.

Looks like this Ishoot necklace was made for Sigma 105 macro art !

But you have to check the diameter at the end of the optics, just before the bayonet.
I realized that the diameter indications of the collars offered were sometimes incorrect...

It is therefore necessary to check carefully, but to within 0.5 mm it is compatible by catching up with the small game with a 3M film or other
On the other hand, these Ishoot (Chinese) collars are really well made and very well finished.
