SonomaBear Posted January 22, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I kept the Pan 24-105/4 lens when I sold the S1. SL is the only way for me. Five M lenses, Canon adapter for old lenses, and buying Sigmas. BTW the SIG 85/2.4 is the finest portrait lens I’ve owned (but I’ll keep my ‘Cron M 90) I do not like the Pan zoom. I’m considering replacing it with Sigma 24-70/2.8. Your thoughts?
Advertisement Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Hi SonomaBear, Take a look here Everywhere zooms - 24-105/4 versus 24-70/2.8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ivar B Posted January 24, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 24, 2021 The 24-105 is not a "Pana Pro" lens so called certified by Leica, but still it is a good lens. Probably the Sigma 24-70 is a better lens optically and faster, but maybe the Panasonic is more versatile with 105 mm, but this is up to you. There is also a Panasonic Pro 24-70, but I don`t think it offers more than the Sigma and it is more expensive. Have you considered the Leica 24-90? I am very happy with mine and prices have come down a lot on the used market.
FrankX Posted January 31, 2021 Share #3 Posted January 31, 2021 The Sigma 24-70 is a fantastic lens (especially considering the price), but so far I almost don't use it. Thinking about selling... The only bad points with this lens are size and weight. Thus, from my point of view 24-70 2.8 lenses are very versatile professional tools, but not what I would call an 'everywhere zoom'. However, that's maybe just me... I prefer primes anyway. @Ivar B: The Leica 24-90 is a really fantastic lens from what I've seen so far, but it is even bigger. May I ask you, what's your bag for using this setup (SL/24-90) as a walk-around solution?
jrp Posted January 31, 2021 Share #4 Posted January 31, 2021 The only thing bulkier than the 24-90 is a set of primes covering the range. But it is surprisingly good (as it should be for the price).

They had one specially made for the Leica SL and it also carries the 90-280.The SL Large camera bag made of leather (oberwerth.com) If you only have the 24-90 you don`t need that large a bag, but Oberwerth bags are excellent and they have other sizes as well. I think there is (or was) a Leica - Oberwerth promo with some discounts available.

It's a core lens that does not disappoint.
Ivar B Posted February 4, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 4, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I owned the Panasonic 24-105 for a short while. It came with a slightly used S1R body, but as I already owned the Leica 24-90, I sold the Pana lens. Unless I am completely mistaken, I believe this is the only time I have seen the "Dual" image stabilization in the viewfinder. The Leica 24-90 is of course stabilized, but it may appear that you need an original Panasonic lens to obtain "dual" stabilization - or am I mistaken? The S1H allows the SL24-90 to be used with IBIS or the lens OIS. One or the other can be selected. Dual IS is not an option for non-manufacturer lenses per the manual. Mick H Posted February 4, 2021 Share #9 Posted February 4, 2021 Obviously, OIS is useful in a body without IBIS like the SL (handheld video, photos with slower shutter speeds). Dual IS is best but I don't have a Panasonic OIS lens to exploit that on my S1H. I would consider stabilization options when acquiring a 24-70 type zoom to expand its usefulness.
