P1505 Posted January 18, 2021 Author Share #25 Posted January 18, 2021 I’d be happy at this point with a right angled viewfinder but that’s also no go. Maybe I’ll buy a new camera.
Einst_Stein Posted January 19, 2021 Share #26 Posted January 19, 2021 (edited) OVF, not EVG. It needs something to fill the gap between the hot shoe mount and the camera's view finder rubber ring. I use thick tape. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! P1505 Posted January 19, 2021 Author Share #28 Posted January 19, 2021 Does that work well enough? Tempted to see if I can modify one.

There isn't much to modify, simply use a small piece of foam tape like this. https://www.instacart.com/landing?product_id=336235&retailer_id=1487®ion_id=32083604724&utm_medium=sem_shopping&utm_source=instacart_google&utm_campaign=ad_demand_shopping_bananas_sfbay_rp&utm_content=accountid-6180870146_campaignid-10879696050_adgroupid-111007165670_device-c&gclid=CjwKCAiAo5qABhBdEiwAOtGmbrCK7InjJkMw_gAUC7hDOoglnihyLZ1a1EBmT4xwfFpplqo88f0guBoCb9oQAvD_BwE By the way, it may have the illusion that the hot shoe is barely attached. No. It is very firm. This Leica angle finder (used for R) is about $15~50. Before this, I have tried to add a small piece of steel (instead of foam tape) under the original "tongue" to extend the tongue so that it can be fully inserted into the hot shoe. But then found the new way is much better. Edited January 19, 2021 by Einst_Stein
P1505 Posted January 19, 2021 Author Share #30 Posted January 19, 2021 Found and ordered. Let’s see how this works Thanks for the extra detail.
RoySmith Posted January 20, 2021 Share #31 Posted January 20, 2021 It appears that this right angle finder is made for the SL: Leica Miami Used Equipment It looks different from the one shown by Einst-Stein.

Not sure if price would be any better.

Go to ebay. There are tons of cheaper ones . You want one made of steel, not gold Also watch the midel number. You want 14287, not 14300. The old and cheap 14287 by Leica is the one to go.

The Leica Miami guys seem generally well informed and carry good gear but maybe the decided to carry it since there are so few options out there. What puzzles me is why Leica hasn't produced a high quality one themselves. With all the criticism that has been leveled at the SL over the last 5 years for not having an articulating screen it would be a good way to address the issue in the short run. It would buy Leica time until they can deliver an articulating screen that meets their exacting design and quality standards. An interim solution would appear all the more important when Leica is releasing cameras like SL2-s, with far more capable video where this functionality is a "must have" not a nice to have. SL is heavy, not suitable to handle one handed. I don’t find waste level flipping LCD practical. Eye level angle finder is another story. The old cheap 14287 works very well. Why bother? P1505 Posted January 23, 2021 Author Share #39 Posted January 23, 2021 Mine arrived. I bought a different model number but it works so well! My tape to help make the pad isn’t here and I’d like more than 1/2mm of hot shoe contact, but putting the image into 1:1 and waist shooting like this is so much fun! Wow. Ill be sure to post images. With the 85mm this low angle will make for interesting street work.
