After reading all the discussions about the app below and having tried hundreds of times it my myself, I've come to the conclusion that basically the app doesn't do anything other than sync date and time (which you can do by hand yourself) so in short it's like banging your head against the wall. Just frustration 😤 and no benefit.

If anyone else had some luck with it then please share because I've uninstalled it and can't be bothered with it anymore.

I have tried Fuij and Canon apps.

Everything photo "camera manufacturer" app I won't touch with ten feet pole.

Sony Vegas is different story. I bet, Sony has nothing to do with it. And it is for video, audio :)

I was with you on this but a few weeks ago, just at our Christmas dinner actually, the Fotos App worked smoothly with my SL for the first time in our distressed relation. I could even replicate this a second time a few days later. I already communicated my deep respect for Leica’s software department in this forum somewhere. Must have been a hell of a job with great teamwork within such a short time to get this app running. Chapeau!

I 'rejoined' to Leica a couple of days ago. With the SL601 and the old FOTOS app the experience was really frustrating. In the meantime I used the Panasonic app which works fine. Only the setup process I find complicated. Now I'm happy with the SL2 and FOTOS app 2.x in the few days I use the app. Easy to connect, stable and relatively fast.

Hi Ingo,

did you switch to another camera brand?

I did find interest in the app, limited but worth having.

if the camera is at an awkward location on a tripod then using the app and autofocus allows you to check the focus and take the picture or ‘focus stack’ without touching the camera.

in those circumstances it’s better than a flip screen but as I am not in danger of wearing my tripod out, I am not getting much use out of the app.

From March 2019 to December 2020 I used S1/R only. Now it's a SL2 and two S1/R bodies.

I recall you were using SL's before that.  Of the three very different interfaces -- four big unlabeled buttons, three labelled buttons + 4 unlabelled, and about a dozen labelled buttons -- which do you prefer?

I definitely prefer the buttons of the SL601. The play button on the SL2 is on the wrong side. The S1/R buttons are very useful but it needs some time to get familiar with all the customizing possibilities.

Fully agree that the play button on SL2 is misplaced; it should be (easily) reachable by the right-hand thumb. And yes, the button outline on SL was/is superb.

It would be great if the 'play' function could be assigned to on of the FN-buttons.

Good point! Personally I like the front button since it can be easily and quickly reaced (for my hand/long finger, at least), whereas I have a tendency to hit the wrong top button... The latter could be circumvented if one of the buttons had a specific signature that could be felt by the finger. Nikon has 'equipped' the top of some of their buttons with mineature patterns, recongnisable by the finger. Perhaps not minimalistically elegant in Leica-land, but it works...
