Is it mandatory to replace AF motor in S lenses that are working fine?

My 120 and 180mm haven't needed the repair, three others did.  From Los Angeles the turn around time was two months sent in 2019.  I seldom use the 120mm the past few years and this can account for it's working af.  The failure of my three lenses hasn't occurred while using the lenses rather when I put them on the body (S006) and mount them after sitting in a camera bag they fail with no warning as they worked when last used.

I think it is common that it happens that way, as the S does a rapid racking of focus every time it turns on or wakes up from sleep. Not sure why it does so, but it always does. I did have a lens fail while I was actually using it, however, so I think it is really just down to the conditions and how much stress the gear has been over. Most of mine failed at room temperature, but I imagine the cold is not your friend for this kind of thing....
