Why am I so conflicted about this Lens. I’m convinced it’s too much to carry and walk the streets for a few hours a day.

any comments about ergonomics ? Mobility? Convenience ? Lugabilty? I feel this would be a cool addition to complete my kit while providing a completely different perspective :

21 SEM   35 & 75 Crons.

Carries just fine...

I don’t find it a heavy lens to carry (but then I do also sometimes use an SL2 with the 90-280!). The Venice shot a few posts above was one result of a 5-6 hour wander with the M11 plus plus the 135 APO-telyt and a 35 Lux.

I have this lens since 2008 (bought it for a trip to Namibia with the M8). I very, very rarely used it since. I was about to sell it, also because it is so difficult to focus with the rangefinder. But then I came across a post on the now discontinued blog Street Silhouettes about this lens and decided to give it a go for portraits. As so often, my wife was me partner in crime. Here are two from the shoot in the garden today.  I may actually keep the thing. Both processed in LR.  B&W conversion in Silvereffex. Shot on the M10R at f4

any comments about ergonomics ? Mobility? Convenience ? Lugabilty? I feel this would be a cool addition to complete my kit while providing a completely different perspective :

21 SEM   35 & 75 Crons.

The 75 ‘Cron weighs ~430 grams, is 66.8mm in length, and has a maximum diameter of 58mm. The 135 APO Telyt weighs only slightly more, at ~450 grams, and the maximum diameter is only .5mm greater, at 58.5mm. While the 135 APO Telyt does have a specified length of 104.7mm, that does not generally affect a camera that is carried in the open, ready for shooting.

As it is, a 75 ‘Cron will shift an M camera’s balance, so that the combo tends to point downward, if carried on a strap. That does not bother me. I wear the strap diagonally, over my right shoulder, so that the camera hangs at my left side, slightly forward of my lateral line. I have never even seen a 135 APO Telyt, much less used one, but I do not see it as being any less convenient to carry than a 75 ‘Cron, which I do have. If the objective end of the lens is pointing downward, it will accumulate less dust, which seems to be a good thing.

Sorry for being so late to address this question. I had been becoming more curious about the 135 APO, which prompted me to check its specifications. It seems to me that if I can walk about with a 75 Cron, I could walk about, as easily, with a 135 APO Telyt. (I know that I can walk about, all day, with a larger, heavier SLR lens, 800+ grams, on a DSLR body, without excess hardship.)

As for actually holding a camera, I support very little to no weight with my right hand. The upraised left forearm and hand make for a steadier platform, anyway, and as my right hand and thumb have become arthritic, it makes sense to use my healthier left hand to bear the weight. I learned to love serious photography with a 100mm macro lens, on a DSLR, so, never developed the habit of my right hand being the default support for all or most of the weigh of the camera and lens.
