I do an a filter is definitely a no no due to reflections for me, i mean when i don't need one for UV/IR filtering or to protect the lens from dust, sand or water. Also, in my modest experience, any filter can produce ghost images when shooting spot sources in dark environments. Now i have always a couple of filters in my bag or a pocket for sake of precaution. Old debate anyway... YMMV. Yes, often. point sources in dark environments require the filter to be removed which I do. Otherwise its only specific lenses/angles to the sun or other bright sources which very occasionally cause trouble - easily spotted by reviewing and then removing the filter - or if in doubt removing the filter. Its not difficult to remove and replace a filter if deemed necessary.
Advertisement Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Hi pgk, Take a look here Cleaning the Front Element, in the Field?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Danner Posted January 1, 2021 Author Share #22  Posted January 1, 2021 OP here. I ordered some Zeiss pre-moistened lens wipes, and a new (sparkling clean) lens pen. Using a reasonable degree of care, I think this work well. The reflections are negligible and they are so easy to clean that you can wipe them with your dog's tail. But you’ll need a proper bag.. https://www.shopdogandco.com/products/topzoo-oval-bed-bag-in-denim  Jeff
