I suspect Leica could play in whatever market they want to, but it's their call as to what they want to do. They follow where they think the profitability might be. :)

I would like the SL2-S if I were doing more video, but I'm not. At present, the iPhone 11 Pro, the Panasonic GX9, and the RYLO 360 cameras that I use for video are significantly more than I need already.

I'm perfectly happy with the CL just as it is. If the (currently mythical) CL2 has a port for a dedicated remote release, well, that might attract my interest.

I already had a Q and a CL and currently I only have a Q2.

SL2-S should be a temptation but too big, too heavy, too .... As a lot of people I am waiting on the future CL2 without any idea about its characteristics. Is there someone able to speak about this new CL2 ?

Gilles

No specs but the CL2 will be released in 1H2021.. I'm waiting just to see what they will do but I think a Q2 will still be better for me

I won't even bother to think about the SL2-S. All of my L-mount lenses are APS-C, so buying the SL2-S would effectively be buying into a new system, and my FF needs are satisfied by my A9 and A99ii - I'm not aware of anything that the SL2-S would offer that I don't have already.

i would think about a CL2 if it offered something sufficiently useful that's not available in the CL,

The only real issue about SL2-S is weight and size.
931g vs 403g...

CL was very competitive against SL : both without IBIS, with Maestro II + 24MP FSI sensors. But CL has an excellent Sony 24MP APS-C sensor. Whereas SL got a good but not great TowerJazz 24MP 24x36 one.

Now SL2-S got state of the art 24x36 24MP BSI (certainly from Sony) + Maestro III + IBIS

So future CL2 will need at least Sony 26MP BSI sensor + IBIS + Maestro III + weather sealing. Just to stay relevant in a very competitive space.

CL at launch competitors were Sony A6xx or Fujifilm X-Tx series. Without IBIS and no weather sealing at the time. Now there latest iterations provide both. 2021 will be very different than 2017.

I am pretty sure that CL2 will be a huge upgrade. Leica spoiled us lately with very substantial follow-ups

Just wait and see March/April 2021

Not tempted, waiting on a compact Leica with IBIS (IBIS would be a great have) and greater resolution, I've had 24MP since 2016, time to up the offering. I will not consider the next CL if it only offers IBIS and higher ISO. If it offers IBIS, ISO and active focusing when rapid firing....I might consider it.

One more dream. Future CL2 can be the first Leica with on sensor phase detect. After all Sony 26MP BSI is available now with PDAF pixels. Will they make a special version without for Leica ?

Assuming that Leica will use this sensor...

Of course. Just dreaming.
But will Leica continue to use for the next 4 years the same 24MP APS-C FSI ?

Fujifilm got dibs on 26MP BSI. Ricoh will use it for the soon to be released Pentax K-3 Mark III

So maybe Leica will jump into the same wagon ?

By the way 26MP BSI is not so new. If Leica can get dibs on an even better sensor. Please do not hesitate to do so.
