1234 Posted August 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried an M8 in April SN 3,110,xxx that had serious focus problems so rejected it. Spoke today with major NYC dealer who has just received new shipment of bodies, 4 @ SN 3,19x,xxx and 3 @ SN 3,32x,xxx. I realize that serial numbers don't necessarily prove mfg dates or sequence, but wondered if these later numbered batches have shown tighter rangefinder adjustment? Haven't seen much mention of serial numbers in previous threads.
Advertisement Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Hi 1234, Take a look here M8 serial numbers & backfocus. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carstenw Posted August 21, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 21, 2007 Leica does seem to have gotten the adjustments under control at this point, although some bodies will still need to be sent in for adjustment. My guess is that the later serial numbered cameras will more likely be well adjusted, although there is no guarantee.

Albert4321 Posted August 21, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 21, 2007 I got mine two weeks ago with 311xxx. I found that odd as the FW was two generation back and I was wondering if it is old stock, returned or demo. Mine has no focus problem, just hi-ISO banding which I thought it was corrected in newer body or FW but then I saw some new thread about this issue with newer s/n bodies. ho_co Posted August 22, 2007 Share #5 Posted August 22, 2007 3108xxx May 07 no focus problem. Don't worry, just buy. Very few had problems to start with (the number of thread entries here represents a small sample of cameras shipped. It was more a case of lenses presenting problems than bodies, anyway. --HC
