Hi,

I had a SL (601) for test at home. I had a problem with the EVF. The blacks look very bad. I can compare that with the look of a picture in Photoshop with Proof Setup on and a matte paper icc-profil. Also the numbers for time etc. are not white on black but white on grey to darkgrey. Never seen this with other cameras or in the brochure from Leica or in a threat here.

On the rear monitor it looks quite good/normal, the black are black (also on raws and jpegs on the PC).

So my question is: Is this a normal behavior  or a damaged EVF?

Hi,

the contrast and brightness of the SL viewfinder falls back against the the lastet versions i. e in the S1R or the SL2. Especially outside it is pretty dark if you under expose the picture.

A work around in these situations is to change the jpg settings. If you put the contrast to very low and the saturation to very high you get a brighter picture in the EVF.
But of course, black becomes grey. As long as you stay in raw, the pictures are okay.

So if it is not your camera, checking the jpg setting may help. The black frame  around the picture in the EVF should be black.

Thanks Andreas,

the frame around the picture is not black. And the jpeg settings change helps nothing. The light condion  (sunlight condition, cloudy or indoor) did not change the result: Blacks are looking like in light fog. And the EVF is not pretty dark. So I think there is a problem with the EVF

The SL has a tendency to get blue in the black parts of the EVF in some conditions.

The EVF in the SL2 is OLED and has resolved this issue.

If you are experiencing slight color and contrast shift in blacks, that is normal. If it more then it is a defective LCD light
