mustafasoleiman Posted December 5, 2020 Share #1 Â Posted December 5, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there any advantage in using a separate e39 lens shade, like one of those you can by on eBay for a tenner, instead of the built in shade? Better shading, protection for the lens? Â Any advice, any suggestion of a specific model? Â Many thanks Alex Edited December 5, 2020 by mustafasoleiman
Advertisement Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Hi mustafasoleiman, Take a look here Lens shade for 50 apo summicron (regular). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted December 5, 2020 Share #2  Posted December 5, 2020 This lens is not much prone to flare and when it flares, no separate hood i know of can do anything against that. Also contrary to that of the 50/2 v5, the 50/2 apo's built-in hood must be turned to slide so it provides a better mechanical protection i feel. Bottom line i never use a separate hood on the 50/2 apo but YMMV.

I am sure he will do you one with diamonds, and sell you a Von bag to carry it in.😀 PS - In  my experience with this lens, the built in lens hood is fine for photographic purposes. I have an e-bay vented hood for use in cities as protection and to save the built in hood from marking.. For less than a tenner worth having. You can use the 'wrap of cotton thread' trick to align the vents if you need to. Edited December 5, 2020 by pedaes
