thedirektor Posted November 13, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone ! The new Apple OS has been released (Big Sur) and I wanted to know if anyone had downloaded it and then used the standalone version of Lightroom with it ? My lightroom did not react well to Catalina and although it works, it refuses to close and I have to use Force Quit. Any info would be much appreciated. Advertisement Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Hi thedirektor, Take a look here Mac OS11 Big Sur and standalone Lightroom 6.14. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted November 13, 2020 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2020 Standalone LR CC works just as well as it did under Catalina. I have about 94,273 photographs in this database (god knows where they have all come from) and they loaded up quicker than before.

My standalone has misbehaved since Catlina. Works fine but then won't quit !! I'm a bit of a MacFanBoy so always want to upgrade ASAP ! Got my iPhone 12 mini today. Jeff S Posted November 13, 2020 Share #4 Posted November 13, 2020 (edited) LR Classic was an easy call for me after using all the standalone versions. Ten bucks a month, including both LR and Photoshop, with many new controls (local as well as global), immediate updates and improvements, no new-release costs, no compatibility issues, no forced cloud storage, etc. I spend about what I used to spend, (far less than darkroom days), have none of these issues, and get a much better product. M11 for me Posted November 15, 2020 Share #9 Posted November 15, 2020 (edited) Adobe suggests NOT to install Big Sur yet. So I follow this advice after the Catalina-desaster a year ago. Edited November 15, 2020 by M10 for me
M11 for me Posted November 16, 2020 Share #10 Posted November 16, 2020 (edited) Today Adobe publishes: Lightroom Classic 10.x is compatible with macOS Big Sur (version 11) That was not the case a few hours ago . . . its a bit confusing. The TO asks actually about LR 6.14 and not about 10.x!! Edited November 16, 2020 by M10 for me

A little choppy on panning but the test is fine. Like others suggested turn off overlay info. You can speed things up by disabling more info on the grid view too. On retina displays turn the option Run in low res mode on in order to run very smooth. Bobitybob Posted December 31, 2020 Share #13 Posted December 31, 2020 Yes, it runs ok if you have it pre-installed prior to upgrading as it is a 64bit application, but if you buy a new Mac with Catalina or Big Sur it won't install as Adobe changed the installer architecture to 32bit and Catalina/Big Sur won't run 32bit applications. So don't uninstall it or change your Mac if you want to keep using it.
Alberti Posted May 24, 2021 Share #14 Posted May 24, 2021 What is the current status for LR 6.14 (standalone) in Big Sur? I still have LR 5.7 and I know someone who uses that in Big Sur without problems. Too bad I cannot export a catalogue and read it in to LR 5.7. I read: Quote <netcho> There are some very annoying glitches when running LR6 under Big Sur. Deleting items will make LR6 crash. You have to be patient. Deleting a single photo will take two crashes 😞. deleting is part of handling files, I traditionally over-take and delete 10-30% of pictures. I do not like 100 - 200 crashes a day after a holiday . . and I do not want to use another app just for deleting (at one time I used to import with C1)
