My first 10 years as a photographer was spent processing all the studios film for three photographers. B/W plus E6. Believe me when I say I do not miss it, but I am glad film is still around for those who want to use it.

In 2005 I loaded three backs for my Hasselblad, for a shoot where the requirement was for 48 sheet poster (billboard) of a scene taken during the filming of a TV commercial. I also brought along my Canon 20D as a backup. Due to time constraints on the shoot I only ended up only shooting the Canon. The Hasselblad, as of writing, this is still loaded with the same rolls, 15 years later.

 

Now all my work is shot on M240s. But, and a big but, I feel there could be a Hasselblad CFV ii in my future however...

Blurb or Magcloud are the companies that I’ve tried (blurb now owns Magcloud). The main difference is in the various formats they offer. Blurb has a handy desktop app if your needs are simple, Magcloud has a better range of templates for other programs like InDesign, Word or Pages. I’ve done 6 or 7 magazines now and a few books previously. The magazines work out at 1/4 the price or less for a similar number of pages. P&P can be a bit steep though. Here’s a magazine from a birthday party last year

Except for a green tint difference, which existed between the SL2 and the M10P as well, my eye cannot spot much difference without pixel peeping. 

I can't tell the difference except for the subtle colour differences here (as you have stated), the wooden table.. looks nicer on the SL2.. more contrast/warmer tones..

What conclusions do I draw from this last test? It's time to pick up a camera (whichever makes me feel good) and a lens (whichever inspires me) and go out to take some photos! Happy shooting.. 

Hmm to be fair the Sony 1.8 35mm is considered "expensive" in the Sony world, The Samyang 35mm 1.8 (newly released) would be the equivalent of the "cheap, plastic, recycled plastic"..built lens.. but doesn't necessary hold true when its comes to the "actual" optical performance (especially when taking into account the in lens software correction).

But yes the when looking/comparing the two images, the differences aren't "worlds apart" and like anything it's like the "diminishing returns" curve.. there isn't a right or wrong choice.. ...won't necessary start the debate here around durability/depreciation/appreciation of value between the two lenses.. but like you stated it's one of the things that can't be defined in a simple black & white comparison.. but rather it's the one that you feel the most "connected" to.. and it's the one that you use to capture the scene... well for me at least

Thanks for the photos and it is interesting that on in my browser they are so similar who can pick between them?

I think it would help if more items were in focus, a more complex scene, and real skin would help with texture representation.

I have a box of film in my freezer sleeping its life away.  It takes maybe 24 hours to unfreeze... put film in the camera before un-frozen and it is brittle and will brake. Wish it improved with age but probably not...

This is not meant as an insult.  I am agreeing with you.  

I wish there was a standard test setup we could all use and it was simple and cheap.

Good news, I just got in my hands this morning an M10R, I will be able to use it for a week. The bad news is I had to give my M10P in exchange so I won't be able to do any 24 vs 40 side by side test. 

Ill just be using it in real life and let you know if I feel any different in the real world I guess. 

Given our similar view of the 24 vs 40 meg aesthetic, it will be interesting to see if you can get the m10-R, to do it all aesthetically.

I just emailed with a cinematographer friend of mine, that I met in film school, who works in Los Angles, CA.  He said the actors did not want to be filmed by 8k cameras because it made them look bad somehow.  I would suspect the actors skin did not look as good, and they looked older, which the youth culture of Los Angles does not commercially promote in these times. 

I really appreciate all your posts and energy to research.  I too am a researcher but mostly sitting still at the computer.  When I called you "young" earlier it was NOT meant as an insult, it is really probably that I am old so I see all others as young.

If I make it to France someday I will have to look you up.

I left these two files in the folder as well. 

If you ask me my thoughts on the final results... do I see a difference in aesthetics ? Not really.... ! do I see an advantage to the higher res sensor ? Not really.... ! Do I know wether to upgrade my M10P to the M10R ? Not at all...!

Not sure about ”sad world”? Feels more like dedication IMO.  Not sure if there was an exchange of money.. Or if it was a special loan arrangement? 

He has the M10-R now. So I am still interested hearing steven’s thoughts.

Amazing clarity for a "street" shot which frequently include some blurry.

To all camera testers:  

Please add:

1- Some items in depth- near, mid, far.

2- Some items with detail (any complexity) and texture (finer detail, patterns).

3- An outdoor shot with infinity focus (a shot with all in focus).

4- An Indoor shot with varied lighting, bright to dark, where all is not in focus.
