…given my previous experiences why would I do otherwise?

My point exactly.  Your reasons make sense for you, but are not necessarily obvious to others who might have different opinions and experiences.  Each to his/her own.

I made the upgrade because: the VF was superior (larger opening, higher magnification and better eye relief for glasses), more robust build with improved weather sealing and higher tolerances, slimmer form factor, elimination of video and simpler controls, better high ISO and dedicated top dial, etc.  Best digital M platform to date. Obvious to me.  Also built in WiFi, which is of no interest to me.  Only downside is smaller battery, but I always have carried a spare anyway.

I upgraded from MP-240 to M10 for these same reasons.  Individually they may not seem like much but collectively I think they make the M10 better.  The high ISO performance alone was worth it for me, but I do appreciate all the other improvements including an updated sensor.  I do like the black chrome finish on the M10 more than the black paint on the MP-240.  I haven't had the M10 that long but it seems like it would be more durable.

I, too, think the ISO performance is really the USP of the M10-R, not the resolution. Unless you have the top of the range lenses in their most modern form (50 APO, 35 FLE, etc...) you won't really see the resolution benefit. I've been testing ALOT of lenses on mine in the last 2 months and I've been finding disappointing results on many modern lenses, including the 28 Elmarit ASPH and the 50 Cron ASPH. I'm still trying to find the right lens for this - I've had a few serious conversations with a few Leica stores though without much success.

So in the meantime, I treat this resolution-wise like a 24MP camera until I can bring myself to buy a 50 APO or something - but with the consolation that it can very comfortably shoot to about ISO 10000 in color and much much higher in b&w. The dynamic range within the shots also is so good, you can shoot nearly directly into the sun and still pull up all the shadows. The colors likewise are brilliant as well.

Why testing ?

Why not use in real life ? only one each time ?
