dml84_L Posted October 5, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 5, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I am not using the video function at all, does it make sense to tape the microphones on top? Just "afraid" of dust/rain - or is that too much? I guess it won't have negative consequences? Thanks!
Advertisement Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Hi dml84_L, Take a look here Q2 Taping Microphone?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ianforber Posted October 5, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 5, 2020 I think the weather sealing takes care of that on the Q2, unlike on the Q where it could be a problem. If you’re worried though, no harm in doing it!
jaapv Posted October 5, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 5, 2020 No sense at all. These microphones are weatherproofed and won't let moisture enter the camera. One thing that could happen when you tape, is that the adhesive can be squeezed through the holes and impair the microphones, making for an expensive repair. To my knowledge that has happened once or twice on taped M240-ies.

I was thinking about that, I put a piece of paper over the mics, than tape. Should be fine I guess
jaapv Posted October 5, 2020 Share #5 Posted October 5, 2020 Tape if you wish - there will be no gain but in that case no harm either.
PhotoCruiser Posted October 11, 2020 Share #6 Posted October 11, 2020 I have to agree that i taped mic and speaker holes. After having issues with dust inside the Q i rather close them then regret later. Chris
Herr Barnack Posted October 21, 2020 Share #7 Posted October 21, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I too have taped my Q2's mic and speaker openings. Not out of concern about rain, but dust. The original Q had some dust problems, requiring sending it in for disassembly and cleaning. I have read of a couple of Q2s having that issue, too. Better safe than sorry, even if it was only 2-3 Q2s out of thousands sold worldwide. Or maybe I'm just being OCD. WigertP Posted January 4, 2024 Share #8 Posted January 4, 2024 I tape it on snowy/rainy days for peace of mind when shooting in not so ideal weather!

Driften Posted January 4, 2024 Share #10 Posted January 4, 2024 I did on my Q but don't on my Q2. Be careful about the tape. The guys at the Miami Leica store have seen finish damage from tape on trade-ins.
