Ktsa5239 Posted October 4, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys After being bitterly disappointed with the MC-21 paired with my old EF 70-200 f2.8, the focus was so slow that I’ve missed most shots..... Starting to think if I should go for the Panasonic S Pro 70-200mm F/4, can anyone confirm if the OIS would work in combination with the ibis? And would I get better af? To be honest, after dropping my years saving into the SL2 I don’t know if I’ve made the right choice jumping from the M10... It’s being only a week but without being able to afford SL lenses it’s not really solving the problems of the Tele and macro end that I couldn’t do with my m10 and I’m starting to regret it... Advertisement Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Hi Ktsa5239, Take a look here Panasonic S pro 70-200 OIS with ibis??. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jk1002 Posted October 4, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2020 I settled on a preowned SL planning to get lenses first. To be able to adapt my M primes is too tempting so didn’t want to go the Canon Nikon route for Zoom and AF. cheers JK
Hsueh AnChun Posted October 4, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 4, 2020 I tried the Panasonic 70-200 f4 on SL2 on this weekend. And I know that lens's OIS can work but can't work together. S 70-200mm F4 work faster and OIS is better than SL2's ibis.

The sensor can only move a little bit with IBIS, and that's usually not enough to compensate for movement in longer lenses (or in macro). Another way to look at it is that movement in a 200mm lens is magnified 4x, compared to a 50mm lens. The sensor would need to move 4 times as much to compensate. The Leica and Panasonic IBIS implementations choose either OIS, or IBIS, or both, depending on the lens and focal length (and no doubt other factors such as vibration frequency, etc.). This is transparent to users, you get whichever combination of available technologies will work best.
ZHNL Posted October 6, 2020 Share #5 Posted October 6, 2020 That is not from my experience. I have to turn off OIS, IBIS did better job, it has clear advantage.

I am not 100 % certain, but I believe that for the IBIS and OIS to work jointly, you need a Panasonic body where you clearly get the "DUAL" sign in the viewfinder. I don`t have the SL2, so I cannot say for sure how this works. I have some Sigma Art lenses as well and on the Panasonic S1R, only the OIS works. I am very happy with the Panasonic 4/70-200. The 2.8 is perhaps the marginal better lens (test reviews give contradicting results) but it is very bulky and heavy. I am sure there are some SL2 users out there who can confirm if the dual stabilzation works.
lpeeples Posted December 16, 2020 Share #7 Posted December 16, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tagging on to this.. I just picked up a used copy of this lens to use on my SL2. I'm trying to locate where I can assign the 3 focus buttons at the front of the lens? Any help? The manual says check the camera directions. I'm thinking Leica doesn't give an option. They currently do nothing. I'm guessing not an option with the SL2?
Syu Posted December 18, 2020 Share #8 Posted December 18, 2020 I have this lens 70-200/F2.8, 😁 it is very nice, just a little heavier. But it also means that it is great in portrait and landspace. The OSI on of the lens is available. But in the SL2 menu, the IBIS option is gray.
steveBK Posted December 18, 2020 Share #9 Posted December 18, 2020 One flaw in the L mount system is that only same-brand lens+camera will do dual OIS-IBIS. Otherwise it's body-only or lens-only if you mix&match. Both Panasonic & Leica have been a bit vague about the dual stabilization anyway, but it definitely doesn't work cross brand. The situation is similar to that with the Canon 400mm DO USMll which I use on the SL2 with theMC-21 adapter (IBIS option is also grey in menu). The lens' OIS kicks in & it works exceptionally well.
