cwolfphoto Posted October 1, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 1, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I´m looking for imput here guys, You see someone is selling me a Leica for 1.600 usd, it had some wear but is good condition. The issue is that I have a CL with a 35mm 1.4, and someone is also selling me a summilux 50mm M for 1.000 USD, Im used to having just one lens, and i want to start going out and do some street photography, should I buy the Q, or is better the summilux and keep investing in the cl?

LexS Posted October 2, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2020 It is a personal matter, I would buy the Q, especially for street.
Jared Posted October 2, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 2, 2020 A 50mm Summilux on your CL is a bit long for street photography. Usually, one is trying to capture context just as much as one is trying to capture subject when shooting on the street. That’s hard to do with a 75mm equivalent field of view. The Q is a better solution for that particular photographic challenge.

Herr Barnack Posted October 6, 2020 Share #5 Posted October 6, 2020 Buy the Q - $1600 for a Q with cosmetic wear but in otherwise excellent condition is a good deal. Be sure to do a thorough function check, and take a good look at the front element of the lens to make sure there are no major scratches or other damage. Also check to make sure you are getting all the accessories that you would get when buying a new in the box Q - instruction manual, charger, battery, strap, lens cap, etc.
Yuhau Posted October 6, 2020 Share #6 Posted October 6, 2020 Leica Q will complement your CL set up well : 1. 28 mm in FF 24 MPX. 2. 35 mm on Q of crop factor at X 1.25 ( 35mm/28mm ) , as compared to CL APS-C with X 1.5 crop . 3. Your current CL offers 35mm crop factor of 1.5 = 52.5 mm In other words, you have a very good lens coverage of 28, 35 and 52 ( all auto focus)
jaapv Posted October 7, 2020 Share #7 Posted October 7, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) The CL will always be more versatile and retain its MPs, regardless of the lens mounted. However, the Q is an excellent single camera to carry with decent cropability and acceptable resolution loss at medium print sizes. Which argument carries the most weight only you can decide. cboy Posted October 7, 2020 Share #8 Posted October 7, 2020 Unless the OP likes 28mm FOV instead of potential 52mm FOV with 35mm 1.4 lens I would get continue with the CL. I guess they could use the digital crop on Q but with reduce MP. The better alternative would be a Q2
