Hi! I just got word from a Leica store in Netherlands via their distributor on the repair for my M10, it is Dutch so putting Dutch version and google translated English version.

Please let me know what is "bayonet replaced".

In Dutch:

bajonet vervangen
schakelaar vervangen
bodemplaat herstellen
camera waar nodig justeren
camera testen

Opmerkingen : Onder coulance wordt ASA instelling vervangen

English:

bayonet replaced
replace switch
repair the bottom plate
Adjust camera where necessary
test camera

Remarks: Under leniency the ASA institution is replaced

Why was it sent in for repair?

The last item might be a complimentary replacement of the ISO knob (the disengagement of this is a known manufacturing problem).

the repair was actually mainly for ISO wheel. Its okay the store I bought from is taking care of the repair expenses but I guess I'm glad Leica service saw there was an issue with other stuff as I would have not known. And the store also didn't know of those issues with this camera prior to sending it to Leica.

That makes sense. I agree with @wizard that the bayonet seems to be the lens mount. The switch might be the power on/off switch,  but I'm just speculating here. The bottom plate could be the one you remove when changing battery or sd card, but I have no idea why or how that would be repaired rather than replaced.

It is of course also possible that all three items somehow refer to internal components related to the repair of the ISO wheel. You will know when you see the, hopefully itemised, invoice.

It is not uncommon that Leica does a general inspection if only a specific problem is brought in by the customer. So this does not necessarily mean hard use, since it is known that the ISO knob can be naughty sometimes

Was the camera purchased new or used?  ISO wheel replacement is a thing, but the other corrections suggest hard use.

I had sent the camera (bought used) back to the store for getting the ISO wheel repaired as it wasn't responding. Also I do remember the base plate latch being loose and it didn't stay in place. Apart from those 2 issues, I would have not known about the Bayonet mount and the switch.

Hopefully, the camera leaves Leica service as good as new. At least that's my expectation.

Also I saw this on the Leica website:

"__Repeated Repairs

Should there be a new within the first year fault that was not caused by external influences it will be repaired free of charge."

Does anyone know if this is true in your experience? This camera is used and out of warranty.

No, they refer to the lens mount, the switch (presumably on/off) and bottom plate which seems to need a repair - unspecified. My guess would be the latch, which tends to get a little loose.

My experience is indeed that they did something for free out of warranty and they did sometimes more then asked for. But that was 10 years ago.

I agree with Scott. Bayonet (=lens mount) replacement... what a tough life this poor thing must have had!

Agree. The bayonet mount doesn't get damaged that easily. The camera must have been dropped or something similar. Or maybe damaged by someone carelessly mounting a lens? If it were out of tolerance because of wear alone, lenses must have been mounted and unmounted maybe thousands of times. I don't think that is very likely with an M10.

Just for the record, the lens mount bayonet also contains the lens-detection unit (glass window on the front, IR LEDs and sensors inside). Leica may have gotten a faulty signal warning from their diagnostics, or noticed an incipient crack forming in the cover window.

And - this is 2020. It is often cheaper and faster these days to simply install a new part (i.e. whole bayonet/detector unit, pre-assembled in Portugal or wherever) than to fiddle with disassembly and reassembly and re-installation.
