SpotmaticSP Posted July 14 Share #22 Posted July 14 The Dutch importer CAPI (who was the sole Leitz importer at that time before it was handed over to another entity; ODIN) had the habit to mark their wares with a round badge. In this case a Leica Standard from 1933. Of course, this meant that a hole in the vulcanite had to be made, where the badge was glued in. CAPI markings could also be found on the leather cases (cameras, rangefinders) and printed materials. Welcome, dear visitor! Entries I’ve seen in the delivery book for this dealer all have the word ‘Oesen’ after the model code. Welcome, dear visitor! I am sure @willeica qould be pleased to see a photo of your 1A's engraving (as would we all). Thanks Keith. I now have 3 Pollock of Dublin engraved (on the rewind knob) cameras, a II Mod D, a Compur B ( dial set) and a III. I have shown the first of those above and the camera is shown in the Leica Archive records as having been sent to Pollock via the Leitz UK outfit in Mortimer Street London. The second item, a Compur B, is shown as having been sent to a German dealer, but the lens, which is now on it, is in feet scale, so it may have been modified and sent to Dublin at some stage. This camera takes perfect pictures which amazed me. The final item is recorded as having been sent to a South American dealer, but when I received it, the camera was carrying a British 12 inch (300mm approx) Dallmeyer lens which is in feet scale. I believe that Pollock had its engravings done in Dublin. On enquiring, I was told by a prominent Dublin jeweller that back in the 1930s almost everything sold was engraved and there were at one time 50 engravers working around the Grafton Street area where Pollock was located. Pollock was largely an opticians' firm which sold some cameras on the side, including Leicas. There was a prominent member of the Photographic Society of Ireland called Hugh Pollock who was involved in photographic matters of all kinds, but I have yet to look further into whether there was any connection between him and the engraved Leicas. I believe he may have been from Belfast. Pollock is more of a Scottish or Northern Irish name than one which would be associated with Dublin. I have a UK Leica catalogue which belonged to the Pollock company and it is pre-war but it has post-war prices written in pencil. In most cases the prices had just about doubled. I have a Lutz Ferrando engraved camera which came with a Leitz stereo set. I have already shown my Sinclair engraved cameras with different addresses engraved which were in fact at the same the location. I have explained that in a post above. Two years ago I bought a I Model A at Wetzlar Camera Auction which had been modified by Sinclairs to take a Dallmeyer 4 inch lens. Lars had described the camera as not having the typical Sinclair baseplate. I collected the camera personally from Lars in Wetzlar and, as he lifted it from the trunk of his car, I told him that I already had a Sinclair engraved baseplate to go on it. His face was a 'picture', but he enjoyed the humour of it. Apart from the above items, I have a few Leicas with stickers inside the baseplates.
