Dr. G Posted September 13, 2020 Share #1  Posted September 13, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the hot shoe on the SL2 a little narrow?  I am trying to use my R2 Pro ii for sony with the camera and it's very tight.  I can get it on, but it's very tight.  I think someone here broke their hot shoe, so I'm trying to be very careful. YEP! Sony trigger and Flash does not fit! Not sure why, it fits fine on the M system

Max EPR Posted September 14, 2020 Share #5 Â Posted September 14, 2020 Actually, my Leica SF26 flash won't fit in the Leica SL2 hot shoe. It fits my Q2 perfectly.

Not at all. I had asked the other day what system to use and was told that if using it in manual mode all that I needed was center pin contact. I just didn't know if the hot shoes were standard sizes across systems. I'll just grab a different remote. But I thought the OP was questioning whether the hot shoe was undersized. If so, it's a design error, and Leica is to blame, not the OP. Both the SL2 and S3 have (very) tight hot shoes; so tight that it is on the troublesome side...

No camera maker will take blame when you fit a non maker part on their camera.

No camera maker will take blame when you fit a non maker part on their camera. A hot shoe is for accessories which employ it, not necessarily just Leica accessories. There will be international standard specifications for the dimensions of a hot shoe. Either the SL2's hot shoe meets these or it doesn't. If it doesn't (specifically if it's undersized) then it's Leica's fault, and it's not reasonable for them to take a position that only their accessories can be safely used.

That's a bit like saying you should only use a Leica tripod! FWIW I have just tried my Godox Xpro (Canon versión) in my SL2. It fits, with a bit of a metal-to-metal jiggling, and it fires an off-camera flash. A neat fit, not tight, IMO. Edited September 16, 2020 by LocalHero1953

When there is an issue, I can read about it and avoid going there. Thanks.
