40mm Summicron reviewed. Old lens love with MM1.  Love working with MM1 file on Lightroom. Much easier than 40+ mp one's.

Thanks for the review.  +1 re the Summicron 40mm, one of my favourite lenses, especially on the MM1.

I have a 40 on my Canon DSLR but have been reluctant to get one for my Leicas mostly because of the lack of framelines. Hey default to the 50mm which are too tight. I’ve thought about shaving the cam just a bit to pull up the 35mm lines but then have read these are too loose. Any thoughts on this?

As another forumite (FrozenInTime) wrote in another post just the other day all you need to do is compose the image so that the image is only-just 'bursting-through' the 50mm framelines and you'll be just about there or thereabouts. It's not too tricky with a minimal amount of practice / experience.

Altering the cam for the 35mm frameline is not a good option (IMO) as you might very easily crop-out important details.

FWIW 40mm is my all-time #1 focal-length.

Philip.
